Well you know why Dundalk and Derry played on Thursdays don't you?
Cause most of their support base at the time was on the brew !
And Thursday is dole day as some of our older members may recall.

When we had the lights installed back in 1991. We first of all experimented with Saturday nights to play . This was an attempt to attract as many neutrals as possible to see us play. Every Saturday we were scheduled to play it bucketed rain. So the crowds were dismal.
We then tried Thursdays, to attract more students.Again the students failed to show up in any significant numbers, as they have failed to do traditionally since we entered the League in 1979.

Eventually in 1994 we settled on a combination of 3:15 Sunday kick-offs and the odd weekday game to accomodate our Dublin rivals and anyone else within easy reach of the capital ( which that season would have been Drogheda, Bray and Kilkenny). Then we settled on Fridays mainly which is what we have been doing for the past 4-5 seasons.
