    Choice Music Prize

Ireland's version of the Mercury Music Award takes place for the first time next week. I think it's great that the best Irish albums of the year are being given some recognition and also some promotion.

    http://www.choicemusicprize.com/

    Shortlist:
    (1) Bell X1 - "Flock" (Island)

    (2) Cane 141 - "Moonpool" (Exceptional)

    (3) The Chalets - "Check-In" (Setanta)

    (4) Joe Chester - "A Murder of Crows" (Barp)

    (5) Duke Special - "Adventures In Gramophone" (Hag)

    (6) Julie Feeney - "13 Songs" (Self-released)

    (7) Hal - "Hal" (Rough Trade)

    (8) Nick Kelly - "Running Dog" (Self Possessed)

    (9) Emmett Tinley - "Attic Faith" (Independent Records)

    (10) Turn - "Turn" (Setanta)

My personnal choice would be Bell X1

Great stuff. The only awards i pay any tack of notice to is the Mercury Prize.
Try to make a point of buying the winner each year and maybe a nominee or two, if i don't have them already.
Might buy the winner of this unless its Hal which i have already.
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.

O'Bama - "Eerah yeah, I'd say we can alright!"

    G.O'Mahoney Trapattoni'll sort ém out!!

I'm with you all the way there Risteard. I got Antony & The Johnsons this year and its 1 of the best albums I have - can't get enough of it.

From the list above I have Bell X1, Hal, Turn and The Chalets. Don't really know the rest.

Saw Duke Special supporting Pony Club I think. Unusual but good. Joe Chester recently supported Bellx1 in the Olympia I think it was. I think Bellx1 will win this.

Its going out live on Today FM I think, At least someone is trying to give the Irish music scene a bit of push, f*cking RTE won't show it live, they probably think by showing Other Voices they are doing their bit for the Irish Music Scene; bringing us James Blunt from a church!
The opinions expressed above are not those of my family, my church or myself,
but they are the opinions of Humphrey Bogart as revealed to me through the medium of my pet hamster, Dr.Samuel L. Jackson

Congratulations to Julie Feeney for winning the award. She wouldn't have been my choice but fair play to her. I enjoyed the show on Today FM last night. I hope the prize gets some recognition and continues as a yearly thing.

come off it. historically mercury have just gone to try and find the most obscure album they can find and try to promote it. anto and the j's is well over rated and would never have sold even nearly as many albums as did without that award.

I'd have to disagree there - I think its 1 of the best albums to come out since the Millenium.

Well, Rover 2 U, if other albums had won, people might be complaining that it's too mainstream or whatever. Can't please everyone.
+ Franz Ferdinand, Badly Drawn Boy, M People, Suede and Pulp weren't too obscure before they won.
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.
