Is that not a rugger shirt?
Hi,
Does anyone here know anything about this shirt or when it might have been used ... I have never seen any photos of an Irish team wearing Le Coq shirts which is why it is such a puzzler!! The badge looks right and the shirt itself has the look of a shirt that is over thirty years old (!!) - if anyone knows anyhting about it I'd really appreciate their thoughts! Thanks!

As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.
Sorry I can't help with any info about the origins of the shirt but this is a bit of a mad coincidence as I recently found 'le cog sportif' selling a range of retro Ireland gear on a few soccer websites - thought it was a bit odd but maybe it's an updated version of the one you have i.e. maybe it did exist in the past. Never associated us with LCS before so it was surprising.
I can't find the pic of the jersies they are selling but there's a link to the tracksuit tops.![]()

I don't think its a rugby jersey because those always had button-up collars which this doesn't have ... it could very well be a 1970s / 1980s replica shirt. I really have not got the faintest idea myself where it could have come from!!
I am almost certain is a LOI shirt against the English league at Landsdowne in the early 70's. 2-1 to the English league that day.
very impressive!Originally Posted by Noelys Guitar

I was at the game. I can remember Peter Osgood playing up front for the English league. Peter Thomas in goal for the LOI. All a bit blurry as 8 at the time!

Thanks very much Noelys Guitar ... I really do appreciate it!
Spotters badge Noely, great memory on ya!
you might help me on this one:
Before the world cup in 1990 Adidas produced an Irish soccer jersey that was sold in the shops but never actually used. Does any one else remember it? It had the three stripe sequence going accross it exactly like the West Germany jersay of the time. It also had that shamrock crest like on that top rather than the FA Ireland crest. It was defo a soccer top too loght to be a rugger shirt.
Does anyone recall this? My mates think I've lost the plot.

Yep I do Cork City had the same style jersey that they used in a fai cup final around the same time....They are hard to come by..but I'm sure emmet from Irelandshirts.com has one tucked away somewhere!![]()
I've definitely seen them on ebay from time to time - nice looking shirts they are too. Not got any myself though!
Emmet,
You should do a search in the archives of Irish Times etc... to try and find a report on the LOI game, there might be a picture or two that you could check against.
I thought you were off the drink Ronnie?
"No, I drink to help me mind my own business....can I get you one? (c) Ronnie Drew
They were class jerseys.
Never got my hands on one but I think JuzTheHoop has one

I have been through all of the newspaper archives but couldn't find any photos unfortunately. I have found the line-up though - the Number 8 was given to McGeough of Waterford ... would this be Jimmy McGeough? Was he a Waterford player back in 1971?Originally Posted by Junior
