    Ireland exonerated by Staunton

New Republic of Ireland manager Steve Staunton has exonerated Stephen Ireland of any blame after an U21 mix-up this week by including the rising teenage star in his brave new world.

Manchester City midfielder Ireland is part of a 23-man squad to face Sweden in a friendly at Lansdowne Road on March 1, Staunton’s first since taking charge of the team.

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

I hope he gets over his injury in time for the Sweden game - pulling out of 3 Ireland squads in a row at 3 different levels would be quite an achievement. Shouldn't be any trouble as long as Staunton guarantees him a run on the pitch (I hear his auntie will be in the crowd)

Really though, the guy doesn't seem too clued in. After all the paper talk over the Cobh incident you'd think at the very least he'd have gone out of his way not to p!ss off anyone in the (Republic of) Ireland set-up. Although I imagine it's not to difficult to "fail to endear" yourself to Don Givens.

I know Stephen Ireland personally and I know that he loves his country and is 100% commited to Ireland. Not sure what happened with Givens the other day but im sure theres a reason for the mis-understanding
