Makaay has not been very prolific at international level for the Dutch 6 goals in 43 international games. If you want to bet on a Dutch guy Ruud is a better bet with 25 goals in 47 internationals which is better than 1 in 2.

    Top Scorer

Adriano, Adriano, Adriano. Definitely. Put the ranch on it.

    Top scorer.

Haven't posted on this yet but have been going trawling for a while now.

One of the Brazilians would have to be certs ( more than likely Adriano) but with so many options there is nothing to say he'll be starting every game.

Don't think Rooney will be near top scorer. Don't think he is prolific enough. Raul is certain of starting so would err on the side of caution with him.

For a value outside bet(well duh ) playing ideally for a team that could reach the quarters, and with a couple of handy games in the group. Oh and to make it sweeter , some decent odds too.

For my mind Shevchenko. One of the local bookies had him @ 33/1. Fifty lids straight away. They have Tunisia and the Saudi's in the group stages. He's scored 27 in 62 for the Ukrainians so thats prolific enough.

Baros was 25/1 which considering his record for the Czechs is something like better than 1 every 1.5 matches he has to be considered.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

For me its Shevchenko. One of the best strikers in World Football and in a group with two easy enough teams. They should at leat get 4 games out of him and maybe 5. I think at 25/1 he is the outstanding bet.

Thats true, with Saudi Arabia and Tunisia in their group he could rattle in a few.

I can't see the benefit of betting this early cos it's not very likely someone's odds will change before the competition, unless you are predicting they will go on a fine scoring run. And if your player broke his leg, well your bet would have been as useful as someone who bet on Limerick to win the 1st division and Ireland to win the 2006 WC (that's was £25 well spent!)

Thats exactly what will happen,as the competition gets nearer you'll see the likes of Wayne Rooney's & Ronaldo's odd will shorten as more and more people put their money on them.

If you fancy a long-shot well then you'd be safe enough waiting imo.

You really need to be backing a team thats going to reach the last 4 and get 2 games more than the rest of their competition. Obviously no one knows who'll make it but the Ukraine dont have a great chance. You never know though. Its always one of my favourite bets, watch how it will completely distort how you watch a football match and even the tournament.

Klose was top-scorer last time but he scored most of his goals in the group stages so it doesn't really matter how far the team goes.

Salenko was top scorer in 1994 as far as I know. It does not always work out that they have to reach the last four. I am thinking for value bet the Shevchenko one stands out for me.

He did, all headers too I think. But the goals dried up as Germany played better sides and Ronaldo passed him with a goal in the semi and final for 7. Rivaldo was the other danger with 5, he clipped the post in the final too before Ronaldo scored.

I reckon one of the portugeusers is worth a shout, Pauleta 25/1 with PP has been very prolific at PSG and in the qualifiers. He did'nt have a good Euro '04 but could have been down to home pressure and the like. Iran & Angola are rubbish, Mexico might be half decent. Cristiano Ronaldo is 100/1 and he has a very good goalscoring record for a midfielder and Big Phil likes to play a 4-3-2-1. The only thing that might go against them is that they could be playing the Argentina/Holland group runners up in the Second round.

but they are the opinions of Humphrey Bogart as revealed to me through the medium of my pet hamster, Dr.Samuel L. Jackson

Surely in that case, Jared Borgetti should have a real chance too seeing as Portugal don't have the best defence.

His international record suggests so but I don't think Mexico are as good as their FIFA ranking implies. If you speak to any Iranians or Angolans even they will tell you that they fancy getting a result out of Mexico more than Portugal.

Maybe so but Borgetti is a predatory striker, along with Adolfo Bautista, and they will create a lot of chances through Medina.

What road in Cork do you live on Soko?
Think backing a Mexican might be pushing it a bit too far lads.

City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.
