New defender replacing Kenny Cunningham, Richie Dunne top of the poll, but who is Paddy McCarthy, never heard of the guy?

A big prospect when in Man City youth/reserves. Like Elliott moved on for the lure of first team footie and is playing vey well now apparently in a poor side. As with all our young lads he'd really need a run in a prem side to reach his undoubted potential, but who knows if he'll get the break.
The above is all opinion and based on personal experience. Unless stated otherwise it is not a dig at anybody, well probably none of you lot.
I think his big weakness is discipline 9 yellows and 1 red so far this season. He needs to dramtically improve this if he wants to step up to senior international level. You need to be a clean defender at that level, or be a 'star'.
Watched him a couple of times on TV not sure really. Bad discipline as has been mentioned and this would not be tolerated at international level.
We're looking a bit thin in the middle at the moment. I've always thought Dunner was a class player. Andy O'Brien and Richard Dunne should be an OK combination but hardly world beaters.
Paddy McCarthy was initially very rough around the edges but is growing in maturity & confidence. He captained Leicester in their FA Cup win over Spurs where he was man of the match. He used to pick up a booking a game practically but is looking more the part now. He's mucking in with assists & efforts on goal now too which is good. He used to be a big threat for the U21s from corners & frees (did Givens' U21s ever score any other type of goal?) and he seems to be a threat in the same way for Leicester.
Check out all of CraftyToePoke's eye-witness reports on McCarthy in the "Irish Players in England" sticky above. Always worth a read.
The English papers have suggested that McCarthy would be one of the first to be snapped up by bigger clubs if Leicester were to go down.
Yep, you'd worry about the core of our defence and the centre midfield since Cunningham and Keane have been gone.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
He scored for Leicester.

After O'Brien & Dunne, and maybe O'Shea there's not much available. But often in the past we've had to throw players in at the deep end & they've done OK. McCarthy & maybe Marcos Painter may have to step up a bit quicker than expected. McCarthy's recent form & maturity has been encouraging. Painter's MOTM performance against Reading last week was a good sign, albeit a VERY early one. I wonder will he & Bruce be playing against West Ham tonight.Originally Posted by OwlsFan

I
Actually declared, but yet to play.
Was sent off again today. Stan made the right choice in not calling Paddy up at this time, he may be one for the future but not quite yet.
should not have been a red, very harsh. i wonder how many players have been sent off home and away against the same club in the same season!
