Rofl, I can't get over the name "Belfield Bowl". Its not exactly the Rosebowl! Still, could be a good move for the students.
The sports team from my area is superior to the sports team from your area.

You'd understand the name if you ever saw the place. It's a natural amphiteathre (i.e. a hole in the ground) and very bowl shaped. It's a nice little stadium though and much more central in Belfield. We won't need to walk down the unlit laneway anymore.

The only problem I have with it is that the closest bar is owned by the students union so we'll likely be giving those eejits a lot of custom only for them to waste the profits on stupid protests.

So where is the rugby ground in Belfield? Near the hockey facilities?
Any photos of the current Bowl?

If you know the hockey stadium and the car park beside it.
The Bowl is at the opposite end of the car park to the Sports Centre. In fact there is an exit from the car park goes right past the entrance to the Bowl.

Yeah, cos that b0llocks Brady closed down the Sports Bar. That would have been an ideal location for visiting fans to have a pint or two before the game.

Stadium is in a nice location though - 15 minute walk from DART or LUAS - will be very accessible.

I was reading a UCD graduates magazine recently and noticed a physical resemblance between President Brady and Heinrich Himmler... any other UCD students see that?

Photos here, a lot of work needed obviously.

    Slightly off topic, sorry

Personally I hold the Students Union responsable for that.

When it closed I sent an innocent sounding e-mail to the SU to ask what the story was and the SU responded by denying that they were involved, saying that anone who suggested this was evil and probably a nazi, i.e. they defended themselves against an allegation I never made. A sure sign of guilt if you ask me.

    My e-mail to the SU
    Fergal,
I'm the outgoing captain of the Orienteering Club and I'm writing to ask if you know what the deal is with the Sports' Bar? I got a letter from the Sports' Dept. telling me it's closed.
Do you know any more? Will the loss of income affect our grant for next year?
What's the union's position on it all? Is anything being done to try to get it re-opened? I'd be happy to distribute any information or policy you have amongst our club.

I'm sending a copy of this to the ents officer as well, in case you're away for the summer. Could one of you find time to get back in touch?

    Thanks,
    John Craddock
    SU's Responce
    Hi John,

My name is James Carroll and I am now President of the Students' Union since
    July the 1st.

How are you? Sorry for the delay replying to you. Alot of rumours / gossip
etc. seem to be doing the rounds about the closure of the Sports Bar. Let
me straighten out a few things.

It is completely wrong to think that there was an outvoting by the Students'
Union and/or Forum Bar Committee over anyone to get the Sports Bar closed.
There was NO vote taken at all about anything.

The next issue is whether UCD Sports' clubs no longer have access to the
operating profit from the Sports Bar. As a result of this new move, all UCD
Sports' clubs will be able to apply to the Student Consultative Forum for
extra funding, something which the rugby team did successfully in the past
    12 months.

There never ever was an issue / discussion of picking to close either the
Forum Bar or the Sports Bar. Since we got a new manager for the Forum Bar
in January, he has turned around the Forum Bar's fortunes. Furthermore,
there was a significant upturn in business since the new Health Sciences
    Complex opened adjacent to us.

Next, the licensee of the Sports Bar did not want to renew his licence.
Also, the Sports Department are constantly looking for more space so this
new space goes some way to alleviating that problem. We, in the Forum Bar,
were asked to accommodate the former Sports Bar custom, something which we
were delighted to do. Add to this the fact that we agreed to turn the
upstairs of the Forum Bar into a sports type bar. Add to this again that we
decided that we would allow more Sports' reps on the Forum Bar committee. I
also will turn over the chairpersonship of the Forum Bar Committee from
myself to Mary Clayton, UCD Vice-President for Students.

I am sorry that the closure of the Sports Bar affects you so much as I
regret that the Sports Bar needs to shut at all as we certainly did not want
/ vote for / ask for its closure. Ultimately John, there has been a mass
breakdown in communication here as opposed to any cloak and dagger activity.
However, as a result of this breakdown, some people have been left
aggrieved. What we must do now is to make the best out of this situation
and any suggestions you have, we certainly will take them on board.

If there are any other issues you would like to discuss, please feel free to
call down to my office in the Student Centre or call me at any time. My
    mobile is 087-7535653.

    All the best,
    James.

I have to say the stand looks very nice albeit very small. Colours go a lot better with the club too.

What DART Station would leave you 15 mins form there. Its a bit further then that unless its 8:45 and your late for a lecture maybe!!

and What are the plans to stop people from just looking from afar ? Are you going ot build 20 foot walls or will I just go across through Beech Hill business park and look from there

Booterstown is nearest, 15 minutes might be a bit tight though. It's a minimum half hour from the Luas BTW.

Don't know but I assume there are some plans!
