Research would seem to indicate that Kearney was indirectly taking ther FAI to court/FIFA thru the PFAI & FiPro over freedom of transfer when contracts have expired. FIFA rules also seemed to indicate that if your contract expired while you U-23 compo was due even if you over 23 when re-sign.Originally Posted by Roverstillidie
Its possible this will be a landmark eL case in years to come.
Also quiet clear that Kearney never wanted to resign for City having initially accepted an improved contract only to change his mind & decide to hold out til end of last season dispite numerous improved offers. If he stayed would have been one of best paid in the club.
I'm hoping for City v Shels first game of the season. When Ollie Cahill made similar move he had a disasterous debut losing 3-0 & was so bad his team-mates wouldn't pass the ball to him. Likie it or not Kearney will be singled out by CCFC fans this season.
Has any tribunal ever found against Shels? Maybe the Cawley one but then didn't the FAI end up paying their fine?
Maybe the UCD lads know the details...

This wasn't about Shels. It was all Kearney, if anything it looks more likely he'll go up to Drogs. Christ, blame Shelbourne though, it is the easiest thing to do...Originally Posted by Dodge

They are all sorts of rumours floating around about Kearney. Lennox messed him about, not enough cash e.t.c If as you claim he would have been the highest earner then why did he actually want to leave? If I was a Cork fan I would be worried that spice boys like Kearney were getting paid more than commited and much more talented players i.e Joe Gamble
I don't see $hels signing him as a big deal because he is vastly over-rated. Killian Brennan, Brian Cash, Gareth Mc Glynn and Horse-features Ryan with $hels are all much better wingers.
"The Derry fans were fantastic in both matches. They sang their hearts out all the time and created an even better atmosphere than the Cup Final. They were brilliant. - David Graham, Gretna striker
Think he was going to one of the best paid. Doubt he'd be near Gamble or O'Callaghan the freak.

How could this tribunal possibly "find against" Shels? It was all about Kearney and Cork ffs. Jeez, you don't miss an "opportunity" do you?Originally Posted by Dodge
An independent tribunal in Dublin this afternoon has ruled in favour of Liam Kearney and against Cork City FC in the dispute regarding Kearney's status. The tribunal has ruled that Liam Kearney is a free agent and Cork City are entitled to no compensation for the player should he now as expected sign for another club. The club were represented at the tribunal today by club secretary Jerry Harris and barrister Patrick Horgan.
Speaking to CorkCityFC.ie, City chairman Brian Lennox was unhappy with the outcome. "We are disappointed with the verdict from the tribunal. We have contributed a lot towards Liam Kearney's career during his time at the club and the decision is disheartening". There is no appeal available against the decision.
The sports team from my area is superior to the sports team from your area.
The tribunal was the PFAI -v- Cork City FCOriginally Posted by Dodge
There's always one![]()
Quite the contrary. The FAI witheld the money from Shel's prize money and gave it directly to UCD. Shels did pay for it.Originally Posted by Dodge
I'm slightly annoyed to see this ruling as UCD rely on this compo rule to prevent players from fecking off fast without return. I know it only slightly changes things but it's a little more power tipped in the balance of the player.
If that's the FIFA rule, then on what grounds did the tribunal find against CCFC? Does the eL not obey FIFA rules?Originally Posted by pete

I would be interested in the legal basis for such a decision, because as Pete points out, this would seem to set a precedent. This could hurt all Irish clubs over the coming years. Like it or not, we're still a selling league and if we can't sell players for cash, then it'll cost all our clubs in the long run.
Gamble has resigned contract so not going anywhere for next 3 years. Kearney was first choice winger as no other option & was dropped due to poor form near end of the season. He did score league winning season but it was clear especially after the FAI Cup final he didn't want to stay. My impression is that this got too personal with his father representing him in contract talks.
Wot a sickner!Add in the fact cork havnt signed anyone yet. I've said it before, looks like its between Derry and Shels for the title
