Mc Geady IMO, is very good for Celtic but when he puts on the green jersey for Ireland IMO he is pish poor, friendlies matter not and he was very poor in our qualifiers. Just cause he gets the ball runs directly across the pitch does nothing but looks like he has done something doesn't mean he is great Bigmancas. Hunt for me would have started, but he should not come out bitching to the press, bite your teeth and work even harder in training for the starting place.

Jesus terrible tackle on Hunt by Carsley, Hunt was not too happy at all. Very bad tackle but not quite as bad as Hunts tackle at Man City I think.

Obviously they don't but I'm pretty sure after seeing him against Brazil that his confidence problems are sorted. He was a nervous wreck in most Ireland games beforehand but was incredibly confident on Wednesday.

It really depends. He might play 40 simple passes in a game. That may be good enough to help us outpass a team. He doesn't need to be making defence splitting passes to prove his worth in the team.

McGeady's only a kid FFS, a great talent. If he was 28 and regularly crap for Ireland then write him off but he played poorly when he was 20, years before many players even get capped. He has shown enough to show that he has immense talent but is still work in progress. Sometimes I wonder if we deserve talented players given how they're treated.

You've also got to ask what Staunton told McGeady to go out to do and what he ever said to him. I'm not deflecting blame for McGeady's poor showings in eastern Europe but you get the impression he was told "you play out left" and not much more.

I tell you what: I'm bloody glad we have him and not Scotland.

Also, if we ever improve our set pieces there are no better players than Duff and McGeady to draw fouls in dangerous areas.

I'd agree, but I'd also go so far as to include Hunt in that.

While not as gifted technically as Duff or McGeady, His brain is seemingly always three steps ahead of his feet, and his speed & momentum, if trained, could be relied on to get a free in a dangerous position.

He does always seem to be a target, and his talent for a theatrical fall after a heavy tackle could benefit us greatly.
On the way into the stadium, an elderly San Marino Steward waved us in and said "Tonight, may the best team win"

    And they nearly did.

He is a substandard international player - playing not bad with a team who will probably be relegated from the premier league - and just so happens has a lion heart. He does not have anywhere near the ability of Damien Duff and Aiden mc Geady. Any challengers? Good to see Mc Geady play well at croker - He does not deserve the slating he gets from some quarters. He is our greatest talent and deserves respect and encouragement. After all he is only 22. Bring on Terry Venables and quick!!! Sack Delaney and Givens NOW
You actually think that Duff and McGeady are better than Hunt? And Miller?

Hunt is in outstanding form and himself and Ireland are Ireland's best 2 players for the next 2 years.

    Duff should retire

He deals week in week out with naysayers and people who want to cut him down at every turn beacuse he is the best thing Scotland have produced in years / maybe ever and he has decided to play for his spiritual home. But then there are people like yourself Bill who make him maybe regret his decision. It is terrible that he is getting slack here as well as there. He has started how many competitive internationals - maybe 4? and you have written him off at 22 Bill. You know nothing and remind me of E Dunphy. He wasn't the worst in Bratislava - Stephan Ireland, Jonathan Douglas, Sheasy were worse. He was the easy sub. Granted poor in Prague - but look what happened his replacement.. Waken up Bill.
These are all Scottish League results. They meaning absolutely nothing.

i said that in a earlier post, stokes proves that league worth nothing.

Hunts reaction t carsleys tackle just adds to my feeling the friendship in irish camp is minimal. Duff passing comments about ireland now this!!!

I think the opposite. I don't rate Hunt as an intelligent player at all. Maybe I just relate him to Kilbane too much.

Stokes showed to me that he's a fantastic striker. He's still yet to play a game as an out and out striker for Sunderland as far as I know. He played pretty much as a loan striker with Falkirk. Alan Gow supporting him and Latapy the main supplier.

When someone scores over 20 goals in the SPL and proves to be an average player then let me know. Almost all the players that have hit the 20 goal target in the SPL have proven themselves at the top level (the 2 players that haven't proven themselves have yet to play outside the SPL).

Think its different for Mageady as he is a player who beats and takes on other players. If they are substandard, beating them every week isnt really going to stand him in good stead when he comes up against internationals. But again he has never played well for Ireland so in the context of the thread doesnt deserve a place ahead of Hunt.
I think Stokes has played up front for Sunderland a few times, but didnt do much. Although if he is any sort of confidance player(and his run of form in Scotland would suggest he thrives on it) maybe Sunderland with their notorious fickle support is not the best place for him.

How can you say McGeady has never played well for Ireland? You really do seem to have a vendetta against him. Granted, when he's started a competitve match he hasn't played well (aside from Wales, which I'm pretty sure he started) but neither has Hunt. McGeady is a lot younger and a lot more talented than Hunt. He will come good for us.

Should also be pointed out that the last two games have been the first time McGeady has gotten a chance to play in his best position. Suprise, surprise suddenly improved performances...

He is a lot younger and is a lot more talented. But his performances for Ireland have not been good. I dont have a vendetta against him. Id love him to be playing well for Ireland. People need to take off the Celtic tinted glasses. When he puts in a few good performances he will have earned his place. Until then he should be on the bench.

I reckon Mcgeady has class in abundance and could be our best player, in the future. However, with regards your long list of awards, Anthony Stokes broke records with falkirk, probably would have gotten player of the year along with top goalscorer, is he one of our best players? Point is you cannot compare the SPL with with International football. Granted, he has done well in the champs league. Hunt has been one of Reading and Irelands best players recently so I think that putting duff before him would have been unfair in a competitive game, due to it being a friendly I'd say it's alright to be annoyed but keep it beween you and the manager not go moaning to the media.
pain is only temporary, glory is forever.
