Commenting on Hunt's technique is difficult. Sometimes his control lets him down, but in terms of final ball you'll find few players in the Premier League that deliver as many goals and assists per ball struck.

I remember discussing this a while back, comparing McGeady to Hunt. While McGeady is technically superior, and looks far more impressive, a lot of what he does doesn't actually come to anything.

Hunt, in contrast, will give you the most base and rudimentary performance, but it will be effective. During his time at Reading he scored a tremendous amount of goals and assists for a left midfielder.

I would agree with this irish fan, but watching him the last day he controlled a lovely high ball and brought it down the other side of the united player. The last day his final ball and movement around the box was very impressive, though ill reiterate he wasn't under much pressure from uniteds midfield/defense.

I found this remarkable piece of information.
    http://www.sundaymercury.net/midland...6331-26598703/

Hunt was Hull’s top scorer, had the most assists, covered the most distance and even more remarkably his side didn’t pick up a single point when he wasn’t in the side last season.

I think that is pretty remarkable going for someone who has an "occasional absence of technique"!!
The last point high-lighted is a particular jaw dropper. I wonder if thatis some sort of record?
I think an added benefit is that his energy and effort must rub off on the rest of the team.

I remember a good while back listening to a Reading match to see how the much heralded Kevin Doyle would get along, however the Irishman who made the big impression was not Doyle but Hunt, he seemed to be all over the play and IIRC he also got a couple of goals and an assist for Doyle.

Came on and scored, Wolves went on to grab a late winner which they sure needed, I am sure Mick was delighted
because he would have been under a lot of pressure if they hadn't. Massive result for Wolves.

Making his mark in the game against Birmingham, expertly scored a striker's goal on 45 mins to cap off a tenacious first half performance. The game has all the signs of a relegation scrap.

McCarthy must be delighted to have him back. Hopefully they can hold out for the win but I reckon this will be a draw!

Isn't it great to see an Irish player (S.Hunt) taking proper corner kicks. Near post, far post. And every single one causing Birmingham problems. We have definetely missed Hunt. Great to see him back to full fitness today.

Unfortunately I just missed the goal, good to see Hunt knocking in the goals.

I predict a late equaliser, always seems to go that way for McCarthy!

It is officially now called MicMac disease. "Coasting, then a sudden desperation creeps in as the inevitable equaliser is conceded 12 minutes into injury time".

I didn't see any of Hunt's corners, but I had similar thoughts about Owen Garvan's corners the other night. Pinpoint deliveries to the edge of the six-yard box each time and not once did a Palace shirt attempt to attack the ball.

Some of Hunt's corners were good, some were okay and some were poor.

Just saw the highlights on MOTD2. There is no doubt he has an eye for goal. Took his chance very well and also had another chance saved from close in. A 'busy' performance as always. Its definitely an attribute we need our wide men to have, in that they get in to the box and try to get in on the goalmouth action!

Its something that Duff and McGeady do much less of, their strikes are generally from outside the box. Im sure some statto will prove me wrong now!
I thought you were off the drink Ronnie?

messed about the chalkboard feature on guardian.co.uk - http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/chalkboards/create - and came up with this
Stephen Hunt's corners VS Birmingham (the blue line is the only one that found a teammate)

If Hunt had been on the box he would have got on the end of a few of them.

Perhaps you could also plot the interceptions, Hunt made 5, the team average seems to be about 1.5.

I think that shows a good footballing brain, being in the right place at the right time.

Anyway a classy finish for the goal, some people complain about his lack of technique, or whatever but nothing wrong with that.

    done and done

as you can see, Hunt made 5 interceptions
Team total was 20, Berra got 3 and no other player got more than 2.
