SSN says he's out for a few more weeks. He needs a hernia op after the reserve game mentioned above.

hunty was the best player on the pitch last night. his doggedness, commitment and passion to play for ireland is a joy to watch. assuming duffman and mcgeady are back for slovakia, what is the best way to utilise hunt?

he can be very effective as a 20 min impact sub but then you are missing out on him for 70 mins. maybe he could do a job in centre mid.

Horses for courses. Hunt is undeniably very strong defensively against opponents with a dangerous wide threat. Otherwise I think Duff/McGeady and Hunt off the bench is a solid plan.
I wonder where Lawrence fits in all this now, he hasn't really done anything wrong. Ditto Fahey.

Duff is the only one I'd consider undroppable, I think the others all have merits to be argued for.

i would consider mcgeady undroppable now aswell, which is unlucky for LL and hunt, and to a lesser extent coleman trying to break through. mcgeadys confidence and all round play has improved no end since moving to russia, he is on another level. fahey should start cm in my opinion with a harrier alongside him, at the moment i would go with andrews but its a position i would be tempted to try hunt in, not in a qualifier though.

Hunt is a winger. He'd never survive in the centre. He has a lot of great attributes but spatial awareness isn't one of them.

I wondered why Hunt wouldn't survive at CM.
    Our Gattuso is a winger.

He'd be a hyper Paul Green - he'd chase every ball but good midfielders would find it easy to pass around him. I moved from winger to centre mid at underage level and it requires a completely different set of skills - you need to know what's going on in front of you, around you and behind you, and that's just not something Hunt has in his game. Defending as a winger is a lot more straightforward.

i know what your saying, i play cm or cb back myself. the best cms are players who have a natural footballing brain ie. can antcipated where the ball will be, where players will move, where to find space. i realise the way hunt performs on the wing he comes across as a headless chicken a bit. maybe he could adapt i dunno if hunt would be capable of filling this role but i wouldn't say it's not in his game without having seen him play there. maybe he would lack the discipine to keep the shape trap likes. but he does a good defensive job from the wing so id like to try him in there, more so as a way of getting him onto the pitch in our starting 11 than anything else i suppose (and glenn whelan out of it)

According to BBC text reports he limped off towards the end of today's game.

Looked fine to me when he went off. Had a very good game today. Made the second goal and played as well as I have ever seen him play. Laughed off a crunching tackle from Sidwell and his first touch and passing today was excellent. Did get booked for one late challenge himself but never close to another yellow after that.

That goal says a lot about Stephen Hunt if it didn't go in they were relegated.

Hunty got a haircut! Not the best picture but the mullet is gone.
