    Carsley latest injury scare

    [soccercentral.ie]

Lee Carsely is the latest Republic of Ireland squad memeber on Mick Byrne's treatment table as he has joined Kenny Cunningham on the injury list.

Both men sat out training, Cunningham with his problem hamstring but Lee Carsley had a heavily bandaged knee and took no part in the session.

"We're letting Kenny's injury settle before we see how bad his hammer strain is", said McCarthy.

In response to queries about Carsley he added "Lee reported a strain in his thigh shortly after the start of the session so we told him to sit it out, we have agreed that we won't risk anybody who has the slightest of knocks."

If an injury occurs after the squad has been announced they can call someone up....if a player was carrying a knock into the squad i think its tough luck. AFAIK

fair enough pablo , good call

The regulations further state: “A listed player may only be substituted in the event of serious injury up until 24 hours before his team’s first match, after FIFA has received a detailed medical assessment in one of the four official FIFA languages, and only after acceptance and confirmation by the FIFA Sports Medical Committee that the injury is sufficiently serious to prevent the player from taking part in the competition. The national association shall then immediately nominate the substitute and inform FIFA accordingly.”

Weren't England told that they could replace Beckham if his foot hadn't recovered?
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

Sure how would FIFA know a player carrying a knock anyway.
