I have talked to someone in the San Marino federation of football, they say the their match against Germany will be played in Bologna but the other matches in San Marino - they did give a word of warning that nothing can be confirmed until 2 months before the actual match.

I have also got quotes from hotels in San Marino for group rates - including the Grand Hotel San Marino (€85 for twin, €111 for triple) and a hotel that only have 26 beds so you can take over the whole hotel (works out €30 per person on average).

I am not convinced that San Marino is the best place to stay, it could be great if there is the right crowd etc. I am heading for Rimini in a week or two to see what I can offer from there - does anyone have any questions etc that I can try and help you with while I am there?

We had over 35,000 in Paris for the France game.
14,000 in Nicosia for the Cyprus game.
2,500 in Tel Aviv for the Israel game.

    Need I go on?

If they play one game in Bologna, I reckon they'll have to play all of them there. Remember the 1984 European Championship when Holland got Malta - under suspension - to play in I think Aachen just over the border. Like a home game hammering them 6-0. We of course ended up going to the building site pitch in TaQali. Anyway, it sounds to me it'll be full of snow (global warming notwithstanding) in San Marino in February. More reason to have it in Bologna.

Bologna for the Germans, it's Bologna for us, FFS.

I wouldn't know - probably to ask the FAI to push for that - I have contacts in the Italian FA but would have to ask around if someone knows someone in San Marino before I can get a definite response

Would we move a match from Lansdowne to the Millennium Stadium if there's a big crowd expected?
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

All in all it doesn't really make an enormous amount of difference if the match is played in San Marino or Bologna from the point of view of where people should stay - the choice is still San Marino, Rimini or Bologna

We're playing San Marino so we should be staying in San Marino, besides isnt it a tax free zone, cheap booze!!! Most likely alternate venue would be Bologna but doubt if theyll surrender home advantage, not like they need the moeny or anything. Besides the other teams in the group would probably object, either way flights booked and were on our way!!

More reason to have it in San Marino, I think! Be nice to see a bit of snow. Don't think 60/70 miles will make that much difference to the weather either.

Incidentally, here's San Marino's results and venues to 2002 - they only played a home game in Bologna twice (Holland and England in 1993) and in Serravelle every other time. 2004 - every home qualifier in Serravelle. 2006 - Serravelle for the first few games anyway (rsssf stops after round 6, for some reason). We're not going to bring 4,000, especially on a Wednesday in February in a place which is fairly awkward to get to. I don't see why the game would be anywhere other than Serravelle.

Bare with me on this post it has a point

Back in 1993 when England beat San Marino 7-1 after going 1-0 down and still failed to qualify for the WC.
The report in the Irish Times the next day said 'For 23 long minutes England were loosing to a mountain top'

Taken from that I presume the area is mountainous so would it be good to make the game part of a week long packaged ski trip in Italy, or are the ski resorts too far away ?

Could be done but it is a good drive to any of the ski resorts - a much better idea would be to try and combine the match with a stop in Venice if their carnivale is on

You could always take in the Italy Ireland rugby match, quite likely on the Sat / Sun before. Went up to a place called Titless (no joke) in the Swiss Alps the day before the last match in Basel, it was fabulous and kept us out of the pubs for an afternoon!

No, the point I was making is if they are thinking of switching the
Germany game to a bigger stadium to accomodate a large away
following I presumed they'd do the same for us.
