Excuse my lack of German or whatever, whats a "rote lichter" persume pub
its a hard one to call regarding numbers travelling. I would expect 10-15k. Will be a cracking trip and may take away some of the disappointment of not going to germany for the big one

Very bad German for "red light"
I hope I don't have to explain what that is too!

For the 2 trips to Basel I flew Ryanair from Dublin via Stansted to Friedrichstafen, which is in Germany. This time I'm doing the same as there is a train connection to Stuttgart. So here's the details
Dublin Stansted
Out Thursday 31st August @ 6.25 a.m
Return Monday 4th September @16.00
Total Cost (including credit card fee and taxes) €61.46
Stansted Friedrichshafen
Out Thursday @ 9.50 am
Return Monday @ 12.50
Total Cost (including credit card fee and taxes) £73.98 STG (about €110)
It would appear from the Ryanair web site that there are flights out available on the Friday also and back on the Sunday but the prices are slightly different
There is a train journey of 2 hours 15 minutes with plenty of connections and given the German trains on the 2 Basel trips there will be no problems.
Using Kingdom's website above I booked a single room in the Hansa Hotel for the 4 nights for a total cost of €244

Starting on the long pilgrimage to South Africa
We've booked to go via liverpool with Ryanair and onward to Cologne with easyjet, leaving Thursday back Monday. Cost was less than €140 each. German based Irish friends are meeting us in Cologne for onward train journey to Stuttgart with a few cases of good german pilsner to sooth the dryness!
Got 3* hotel for €39 twin room per night including breakfast. It's on Landhausse Str. So Greenbod any idea of whats available bar wise in that area? Seems its only 500 metres from Stadium according to the hotel wedsite.

Ooops, Definitely a typo on my part. It's €69 for the room for two with full hot and cold buffet breakfast. A few others have booked it too. It looks ok and really its a place to put away the clothes and to hang the head at night.Originally Posted by Junior

For relatively cheap accommadation in Stuttgart check out ibishotels.com
Weve secured a room in the city for €69 per night Ibis hotels are generally good quality basic hotels...bed, clean toilet...what more do you want....
Well done to those that got the cheap flights and prepared to 'train or bus' it into town. Im getting too old for that!!.On friday, I booked with Air France a flight from Dublin to Paris, pick up more passengers and onto Stuttgart. Return price €228 each. Therefore herself and meself total cost of weekend - €594.....wonder how the packages will compare. I think its interesting that they are only taking names at moment... were they burnt on the Cyprus trip??

I think its more the punters are burnt each time. The agents never come out with prices till a few months before the matches. Id say there a pretty unhappy bunch given we've the easiest group in years for travelling.Originally Posted by pegan

I know I'll get a slagging for this but there is a great deal on the Meridien hotel in Stuttgart €125 per room per night incl all taxes. 5 * luxury in the centre of town.

Definitely a good one if you want to impress somebody special in your life.
Sure beats the tent in the Bad Caanstat campsite I stayed in in 1988.
Apparently the person that made the decision re Stuttgart is Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelder, who is president of the German FA and was once president of vfB Stuttgart and Culture Minister and finance minister of the Baden-Württemberg of which Stuttgart the capital.
We got the Maritim, 4* for 106 per room per night, 5 minutes from train station
We got the Kongress Hotel for €75 each a night for a single room. It's a 4 star hotel and according to Greenbod it's in a pretty central location so I'm happy enough with that.
What's the name of this place? Sounds like good value.Originally Posted by soccerc

I was taking a look earlier at the website of the stadium. You can open a map of the seating arrangements and then click on a particular block to see the kind of view you can expect. If, as is normally the case with away supporters, we are placed behind a goal, the view is going to be brutal. It looks as though the first row of seats is about 20 or 25 yards behind the goal. You'll actually be better off if you're further back as you will be looking down on the pitch as opposed to being at ground level. Whoever thought that putting a running track around a football pitch was a good idea must never have been to a game in their lives.
Of course all this only become relevant if you're lucky enough to get a ticket!

Yes, have to agree with you there. If you are in the bottom few rows you cant actually see the ball crossing the goalline because of the advertising hoardings!! For two of the goals in Brussels play-off ’97 I didn’t know goals where scored until the crowd reacted as was in about row 5 and couldn’t see the lines over the hoarding.Originally Posted by Paulie
Yokohama ’02 and Tel Aviv ’05 were equally as bad for being miles from the action. We can complain about current state of Lansdowne but at least you are right beside the action in most cases
Great value IMO. Longford arms is more expensive....Originally Posted by gspain

I could see ok in Brussels as I was up towards the back so I was looking down on the pitch from a height but in Yokohama I was nearly at the very front so I was close enough to being at ground level (thankfully 2 of our goals were scored at our end so I had a great view of those!) and could not really see what was going on at the far end of the pitch. Having said all this though I would gladly settle now on a ticket for pretty much anywhere in the ground.Originally Posted by jbyrne
Had great views in Brussells Yokahama and Tel Aviv and would be quite happy for similar view in Stuttgart but beggars cant be choosers so ill take anything!! Reckon at least 15,000 will travel with only 5,000 tickets. Hope we get tickets for the German end as well or we're knackered
