The Scillonian League, the world's smallest league, is seeking new sponsors.
The amateur league of the Isles of Scilly (just off Cornwall) is notorious for only having two teams in it. Woolpack Wanderers and Garrison Gunners play each other weekly, and have been doing so for nearly 50 years. The teams play two cups and a league, which is officially the world's smallest organised league, and because of that the Scillonian League made TV in amongst others Belgium and Scandinavia. The teams often don't start with 22 players, as sometimes a few don't show up. Also, the referee is the same one every week. Both teams also travel to mainland England sometimes to play friendlies against local amateur sides.
Severe storms have damaged the accomodation of the only ground on the archipelago, in the 'capital' St Mary's (2000 inhabitants). Because reparation works need to be done, the league now searches new sponsors via eBay. Current bid is 500 euro.

Is this an example of groundsharing working?Originally Posted by Gerrit

I was disheartened to read elsewhere in relation to this league that "every foreign visitor sings 'Can we play you every week?', and each one is under the misapprehension that they are the first to do so" as the notion had occurred to me also.
A leading authority on League of Ireland football since 2003. You're probably wrong.
Personally I think it's stupid having two teams from the same archipelago. Why not merge to form the Woolpack Gunners?
Nah, that sounds too much like a Faroese military team...
What if only one of them meets licencing requirements? Does the other one automatically win the league?![]()
after winning a total of €29 on th lotto i had planned to buy kilkenny and athlone and move the franchise to cavan, maybe i will expand this league and own half of it.
