First and foremost, I would thank Roy Coyle for all the good he has done at Glentoran - turning the team around after the days of Strain and Cassidy. I would also like to thank him for leaving as soon as he could see there was little he could do now to turn the team around. He's left on time for the season to be rescued instead of leaving it until the dire end.

His departure from the Oval is firstly, very sad. There were many great times, and Roy Coyle being Roy Coyle, it is sad to see him go. He was also a fighter, and I am surprised slightly that he has left. I expected him not to back down, something I always respected him for above all. In the end though, the relationship with the players got so bad, there was little he could do, but to leave.

I would also add finally, that although Coyle made mistakes this season, he is one part of a massive jigsaw of screw ups at Glentoran, and for anybody to lay the blame at his feet only is gravely wrong.

So thanks for all the good times Roy, and I wish you all the best for the future.

Roy Walker would be the safe option, but I don't like the way he would be doing it as a favour. We need somebody 100% committed.

If it was not Walker, for me it would be Alan McDonald, but he is also a risk: he knows little about the Irish League and his managment C.V. is not great. If he was to be appointed, I would like to see Walker become the Director of Football - that would mean Roy could contribute the club keeping McDonald straight, whilst not interfering with his church activities etc.

Roddy Collins is interested in all posts including GAA for sake. If i was stafford reynolds i wouldnt go for collins because he is a bully. I watched the carlisle united show a couple of years ago and he was threatening players n everthing.

If it isn't the Manager (or at least, not him solely) what's been causing the collapse in Glentoran's form recently ? Have the players lost it ? Are the Board not up to the job ?

Walker offered Glens role


Former Crusaders manager Roy Walker has been offered the chance to take over at managerless Glentoran. Glens parted company with long-serving boss Roy Coyle last week following a devastating sequence of results.

The defending Irish Premier League champions are fully 21 points adrift of clear leaders Linfield this time around, and Coyle – who had been in charge for a phenomenally successfully eight-year stretch – opted to step down last week.

I certainly admire him for honesty throughout the process. He had always made clear his other committments and told us not to set our hearts on him. The Glentoran job was always going to be a "fit-in" as it were; he realised that and said no. A sign he does care about Glentoran.

He's away off to QPR, which is fair enough. He didn't know anything about the Irish League and would have been a risk - although no candidates stand out.

It seems as though the board will allow Tommy Kincaid to keep things ticking over and then review the situation towards the end of the season or so.
