Players called into U-21 squad for Madeira tournament

    from fai.ie
slightly disappointed O'Carroll wasn't added in too, but no harm. Didn't we win this tournament last time out? Hopefully this squad can repeat the feat, but I'm not sure if it's a stronger outfit than the last squad

Givens forced to ring the changes on U21 squad

Republic of Ireland Under 21 Manager Don Givens has had to make some personnel changes to his squad travelling to Madeira on 13th February next for the Madeira Tournament.

Due to injuries and club commitments the following players will not be part of the travelling squad:

Paul McShane (Brighton & Hove Albion)
    Gerard Nash (Ipswich Town)
    Stephen Bradley (Drogheda United)
    Mark Yeates (Colchester United)
    Aiden McGeady (Celtic)
    Andy Keogh (S****horpe United)
Barry Corr (Sheffield Wednesday) - replaced Andy Keogh but now cannot travel.

The following players will replace the above:

    Darren O'Dea (Celtic)
    Richard Keogh (Bristol City)
    Patrick Cregg (Falkirk)
    Leon Best (Southampton)
    Alan O'Brien (Newcastle)

The Republic of Ireland Under 21s take on hosts Madeira, Finland and Portugal on 14th, 15th and 17th February respectively

If Leon Best turns up then it will clarify his position.

then maybe EL lovers will not move posts about him into the world football area. hes never played for england, some people just have a mindset about who they want to play for ireland. well hears some news, you will NEVER get the chance to choose who plays for ireland so you may as well give up, and you know who you are...

AFAIK Willo is still recovering from an operation, he certainly hasn't made any appearances for the reserves or senior team in the last month, although he may be fit for the tournament, ir allowed to go to boost his fitness

why do you equate eL fans = only want Irish born players to play for Ireland thats just a fallacy.

indeed it is a bold statement and possibly a little harsh to tar all with the same brush but having been a member of this forum for over a year i have noticed a trend, maybe im the only one who thinks this, however i am entitled to voice it, granted its not everyone though.

I think livehead it would be better if you worded that there are some posters on this board, rather than labelling them EL lovers. This would tarnish the EL fans that happen to agree with you on this issue.

    Brushes used for labelling!?

See what Steve Staunton started by his references to grannies! The Granny Rule and Saipan are the two main issues that will always raise the hackles of football fans like nothing else. I think it's been done to death on this Board lately. Can we move on pleasssseeeeeeeeeeee ?
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

I agree the Thread should have been kept in Ireland in my view. Its madness that it was moved to World Football.

It's a permanent move, he was another highly rated Irish youngster at Arsenal, but moved on because of the amount of players ahead of him in the queue for central midfield.

With all due respects to Falkirk ,but would he not have being better off at a more recognised club maybe Premiership or league one? There is a vast amount of difference in class between Arsenal and Falkirk.Who will ever know if he is progressing up there, surely he will get lost in the system somewhere.
