The moment you've all been waiting for, or at least that's what I tell myself

I'll post the results of the awards you all voted on in this thread. Due to time constraints, they wont be presented in a powerpoint presentation like last years awards. Instead, I'll post them in this thread. Each post will have the nominations for each award and the winner and I'll start posting them almost straight away, starting with the Best Chant nominations and winner. So in just a moment we will have the results from all of your votes and the 2005 foot.ie award presentation will begin

Best chant....

This was an award that really spread the votes, with numerous nominations so the winner only needed a few votes going it's way. So, here's the nominations...

And the winner for the best chant of 2005 is...

"Oriel Park is a bouncy castle" Drogheda United away to Dundalk in their first home match of the season. So spread was the voting, it only needed 3 votes to claim the prize, compared to other categorys where the winner had close to 30.

Best Goal

This could include any goal scored by the international team, or any domestic match, and could be based on anything you like, it could be a tap in that is memorable for whatever reason. Again, a wide spread of votes on this one, so lots of nominations and no one pick collecting alot of votes. Anyway, the nominations are...

And the best goal seen in 2005 was...

Joint winners this time, the award is split between three goals, again like the last category the winning picks collected a mere 3 votes each. Pat McCourt suffering badly from, if anything, scoring too many great goals, he would have won it outright if everyone who voted for his goals v Bray were fully behind one rather than splitting between the two of them, not to mention the goal against Harps also taking home some of the votes. As a result, the three goals in question who take home the award are...

Villian of 2005 award

Not too many suprises here except two expected favourites getting only two votes between themselves, more on that later. This one produced more of a clear winner, with only the first and second placed people getting more than one vote. They got 12 and 6 respectively, can you guess who it is yet? Roddy Collins

Not too many suprises in the winner, the person in second with 6 votes was George O'Callaghan. The real suprises came elsewhere, it wasn't until the 17th vote that Olly Byrne got his sole vote, and not until the 22nd vote that Pat Dolan got his sole vote. John Delaney only taking home one vote could also be considered a suprise, but the winner was anything but. He's never been relegated you know, and he takes home another trophy which will sit nicely beside the All Ireland he'll have within the next 3-4 years.

So Pat Dolan, as much as he's always been a lifelong fan of the villian of the year award, is seen here on this list too, showing the contrasts in opinion people have on the man. Anyway...

The 2005 foot.ie hero of the year is...

Not so much Hero, but Heroes, as Shamrock Rovers own 400 club take home the gold.

Rovers may have gone down but the fans assuming control of the club is still a source of hope for them, and again it's not too big a suprise that the 400 club have also taken over this award. The joint second and third placed goes to Joey Ndo and Shay Given, with the rest of the people picking up just the one vote.

The worst moment of 2005

This could include anything from the domestic league to the international team, so again a lot of nominations and a variety of things nominated, but two things were way ahead of the rest in terms of votes. Anyway, here's the nominations...

The worst moment in all of 2005 was...

As I said, two nomations were way ahead of the rest in terms of votes, and in fact ultimately could not be split. So the joint winners are...

The Switzerland game and Ireland not reaching the 2006 world cup
And...
Longford v Carmarthen

Rovers going down was next in line in terms of votes, than Doyle to Reading, the rest only getting one vote between them. So both winners come from embarassment against international opposition and both will unfortunately live long in the memory.

Again, any moment domestic of abroad was up here, so again, lots of different nominations, though this one was more than just a two horse race. Anyway, here's the nominations...

Best moment was being vindicated at the assertion that the international team was full off uncommitted laze bags.

And so, Rovers going down was many peoples best and worst moment of 2005, unsuprisingly not many nominations for the boys in green on this front. To the winner...

The best moment in all of the year of 2005 was...

A clear winner this time, the most hated man in Corks goal v Derry City and the resulting long awaited City league win narrowly takes home the award here. A fantastic last game of the season was finally put to rest by Kearney, and Cork went on to celebrate the title.

One vote short was a similar moment for Drogheda fans, with Fabios goal in the cup final and the cup final win narrowly missing out and joint second with Dublin City going up/Rovers going down. The 400 club taking over Rovers was next.

The big suprise was the NLSA launch only got a single vote.

And now onto the team/invidual awards. Much less spread here in most of them and some very closely faught awards. This is a typical example....

Most improved team of 2005

There was only ever going to be one of two winners here really, and that's reflecting in the fact there's only four nominations, they are...

Derry City

Kilkenny City

Sligo Rovers

Drogheda United

No prixes for guessing the winner was one of the top two. In fact, they took home 28 of the 32 votes in this category, though in the end a clear winner emerged

The most improved team in 2005

Derry City

Ultimately they won by a fairly healthy margin, and their unexpected title challenge taking Cork down to the last day plus league cup win was always going to see to this. So more honours for the class of 2005 up in Derry, it will be interesting to see if they can take it to the next level in 2006. Kilkenny took home second place after a remarkable turnaround by, then, Pat Scullys men, Sligo third.

Cork and Derry built their title challenge on their defence, with 3 of Corks back four up for best defender and two of Derrys, they dominate this category. Shels also have two nominations, with one each for Pats and Bray, but it's a real indication of the strenght Cork had at the back. The only suprise is Horgan wasn't nominated.

And so, the best defender over the course of 2005 is...

Peter Hutton

This one was very close, with the leader constantly changing hands but eventually pizza takes it home. Corks defence here almost suffered from being too strong as alot of votes were spread between their nominations, but nobody will really argue with Hutton taking home the award, he was a class act at the back and a real foundation for the Derry team to be built on.

Second place and narrowly missing out was Dan Murray, joint third went to full backs Owen Heary and Danny Murphy.

Best Mid fielder over the 2005 season

Again, Cork dominateing this award with three of their mid field 4 up for nomination, showing how highly rated their team is as invidiuals. But this counting against the Leesiders last time out, so who will take home the award this time?

Joe Gamble

A bigger winning margin this time, and real credit to Joe to win with two others from his own mid field in contentionm but Gamble added the steel needed beside O'Callaghans guile and really helped push Cork on where before they were a little light in mid field.

Second place also to Leeside, his mid field partner George O'Callaghan. Third split between Rovers and Derry with Pat McCourt.

But who to put away the chances?

Best striker over the 2005 season

A quick glance at the goal scoring charts would tell you there was only going to be two winners here, and that's how it's turned out to be. There was only three nominations, and the third nomination got only the one nominating vote, so really it was between the first two, but here's the nominations...

Making McCourt the only person to get nominated in two positions here. But who took it home?

The best striker over the 2005 season...

Jason Byrne

To add to his third successive golden boot in three Shelbourne seasons, Byrne is again top dog as far as strikers is concerned, but Farren ran him close here and in terms of goals scored. The leader changed hands constantly until Byrne opened up an ultimately comfortable winning margin. Farren took home second and by default McCourt gets another bronze.

So, the cup winner, the league winner, the league cup winner and the division one winner all nominated and Pat Scully too, who's turnaround in fortune with Kilkenny was nothing short of amazing. But which one takes home the only gold they really wanted?

Stephen Kenny

Probably not too suprising, but his winning margin was still impressive, with him having nearly four times the votes of second placed Richardson. Two big suprises here, one was Richardson didn't recieve a single vote until the 17th nomination in this category! Second, was Scully only got two votes in total, though that was enough to see him claim third.

He raced away from the opposition here in a way he seemingly did not manage at all in the 2005 season, with a pretty spectacular winning margin. Second place also resides in Tolka Park and with a fellow Irish International, Alan Moore, though he must share it with Trevor Molloy.

As our campaign progressed, Given became our most talked about player which frankly said it all, but he usually came up with the goods and so he takes home the best save award. Joint second went to Michael Devine in Prague and Barry Murphys stunning save in Tolka Park from Jason Byrne for Rovers. The rest recieved only their nominating vote.

Never really in question, robbed from Cork by Reading for next to nothing and how they have benefitted. He's taking the first division (championship my arse) by storm since signing for Reading and is all set to be a premiership player next year, having spent the start of 2005 scoring freely for Cork City in the start of their title winning campaigin, something which earned him a championship medal to add to the one more than likely heading his way in june.

Ex Shels man Wes Hoolahan comes in second place, current Shels player Owen Heary completes a hat trick of sorts for the EL with the bronze.

A double for Doyle indeed, another huge winning margin for him too for that matter. Current Cork City man Roy O'Donnavan takes the silver, the rest share bronze with one vote each, emphasising the dominance of Kevin Doyle in this category.
