With left back being a problem why not play Finnan there? He's a much better option than anyone else for that position and we have more solid players to play right back than we do left back.

With him on the right and duff on the left we'd have 2 wingers playing that are nearly as comfortable on their supposed weak side as they are on their stronger side. They could swap sides to great effect during the course of matches just to keep the opposition full backs on their toes. I know this is something we tried under Kerr with varying degrees of success but the difference here is that he was trying it with Kilbane or more often Andy Reid. Both of these players are very one sided which diminished the attacking threat if they were attacking down the right side during the course of a match. If the defender has to face a player that is equally comfortable on either side it poses him with a much more difficult situation. I don't think it should be underestimated how much of a plus having 2 wingers on the opposing flanks that are so comfortable on either foot could be to us.
Stick Joey O'Brien on the right side of midfield
Mcgeady for right midfield surely?

Given
Finnan Dunne ? O Shea
J O Brien Ireland S Reid Duff
Robbie Keane Doyle
My new look Ireland team, 3 new starters and I'd throw them straight in. I'd have O'Shea over Kilbane any day at LB which doesn't say much about either player.
I'm not sold on O'Brien at the back, this is one position we do need reinforcing.

While Dunne has had the more outstanding games, O'Brien has never set a foot wrong for Ireland and doesn't deserved to be dropped.
sorry must be still asleep I meant Robbie Keane!!!

Any Paul McGrath offspring ready to wear the green shirt? Fingers crossed!!
We have Paddy McCarthy and Paul McShane but I'd prefer to stick with O'Brien until he puts a foot wrong for us. He has been doing well for Pompey this season. He wasn't great against Birmingham but Chris Sutton could make any defender look bad.![]()
I think McGeady could have a great role as an impact sub in the next campaign.
mc geady changed the game when he came on for celtic against motherwell i feel this is what is needed

you obviously dont see enough of the premiership this season. By his own standards and the standards of premiership defenders Dunne has had a very poor season, has been beaten my many attackers and has also been hesitant. However Richard Dunne may not be, as you correctly say, the quickest defender in the world, but he is very quick and as quick as most strikers, hes exceptional over a few yards in most situations, i think people automatically think hes big so hes slow.Originally Posted by shakermaker1982

Don't think you could throw in all the new faces from the off in fairness - they'll need time to grow into the squad and then the starting 11...imo
