Sound like he might be a decent signing
Andrews joined us in Aug 99 after a trial. He was non-contract at the time and before us he had a trial for 2-3 months with Macclesfield. John played 39 games in total for us over the 18 months he was with us, 29 of them in his first season when he only missed one game after making his debut. I don't think anyone knows what happened the next season as he started 3 of the first 4 games, then fell out of favour. I think he had a few injuries but never seemed to be given another chance. Then around Feb he went for a months loan to a local non-league side, played one game for them, jacked it all in and went off home to Ireland. The club said nothing except that they were sorry to see him go, and hinted that perhaps he hadn't knuckled down to the challenge of winning his place back. He always seemed to try hard, and although he wasn't the best in the air he put in some creditable performances and the fans liked him.

Sounds like he was home sick?
Good then that he got a bit of a break to decide what he wanted to do & not ready to give football a go again.
Hopefully he a pacey footballing defender as we have plenty of defenders who are strong & good in the air....
Well hes bound to have more pace than Deccie or big Derek.
He sounds like a good player, Im just not sure will Gunther be willing to drop any of the usual back four to accomadate him.
I wonder is he going to be merely a squad player or a first team regular?
I think it's worth recalling that Gunther started last season with Decky on the bench, even if it only lasted about half an hour
Id totally forgotten about that.
In fairness though, usually Gunther will start with Deccie as long as he is fit and able to give the ball a good hoof!!!
I don't think he will as Joes memory tells us Gunther trued to start without Deccie last year. Even Gunther will surely know that Deccie ain't getting any better & he needs to try one of the replacements. Last year I think Deccie came back into the team after the poor results.Originally posted by COLM

a lot of the best players that come home because of this reason turn out to be some of the best. ollie cahill being a very good example. one of the top three players city have ever had.Sounds like he was home sick?
Is that you Eoin from Blarney St. / Glanmire?
If it is, welcome back, sunshine supporter. This is your old durrow buddy here.
If not, welcome anyway.
Controversial statement, one of the top 3 players ever to play for city. I would probably have to agree though, along with Dave Barry & Patsy. Easily the best winger we ever had (including cormac cotter)
Surely Billy would be there aswell (nice use of phonetics there . Apparently there is a townland in Cavan called Billywood. How cool is that?
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.
no ALI-GIITS NOT.Is that you Eoin from Blarney St. / Glanmire?
THANKS FOR THE WELCOME. IM NOT A SUNSHINE SUPPORTER EITHER AS IVE BEEN GOING TO CITY MATCHS SINCE 84-85.
IM NOW LIVING IN DUNGARVAN (GOD HELP ME)
FOR THE RECORD THE THREE BEST CITY PLAYERS WERE DAVE BARRY, OLLIE CAHILL AND CAULFIELD OR MORLEY.
WORST - HARTIGAN
Obviously you have been distracted by all those sheep in Waterford and forgot about big Liam-O, even worse that Hartigol, Definitly!Originally posted by eoinh
