Just a quick question .... is the Evening Herald a rag you wouldn't eat chips off ???
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

I can't believe I'm getting annoyed by the letter - but it is so mind-numbingly stupid (along with the responses of Pete and Dodge) that I'd hate anyone to think that it represented the level of male intelligence.

The argument in the letter was about coverage of womens sport. If we only provide television coverage of the elite in each sport we would certainly have no claim to TV coverage of the eL. By extension we wouldn't be able to watch Ireland's international matches if there were two higher ranked teams playing at the same time.

Most elite sports women train as hard and are as inspirational as their male counterparts. This should be recognised and also by providing television coverage it acts to encourage and inspire younger women and girls to emulate the achievements.

Finally, I don't watch Gealic Football either. I don't enjoy it. When its on the television I use that off button. But I wouldn't argue that just because I don't see anything in the sport that it shouldn't be on television. And as for providing coverage of women's sports when they rush home to watch the television - that is a great suggestion for reducing obesity levels. I wonder if Mr Finegan is really just upset that his participation in sport through television might be affected.

So you're saying I'm not allowed to think the standard is poor and you'd force me to watch it? No one said female sporting events don't deserve to be on TV. I was just expressing my opinion that I wouldn't watch it. How is that "mind numbingly stupid"?

Oh and my comment was aimed totally at team sports

The Aussie Open is really heating up at the moment: Hingis making her comeback, Sharapova not dropping a set, 6 former world number 1s in the last 8.

I don't know how genuine sports fans can dismiss this as being of less worth than mens sports

Jesus just got a back issue of the ****rag. By a clown called Chris Lowry under a headline "We're Irish but what really makes us tick":

    Patriotism

".........But its most obvious in football. Every Irish player in the English Premiership will have his every move followed closely by fans here at home. Imagine how much interest there would be if we had our own soccer league."

Hardly a shock when it comes down to it. The Independent group has an unhealthy obsession with anything anti Irish and seemingly has zero editorial control as we observed almost 2 years ago when we, and all EL fans, were labelled nazis.

To complain the email address is: herald.features@unison.independent.ie

Or better if anyone has the clowns personal email address!

I'd say they are just trying a poxy stunt to try and drum up some interest. In fairness to allude to not knowing there is a domestic league for a Sports Journo is the same as saying "i am a monkey behind a type writer" (i know you are all saying you know this was the Indos policy all along but now they have confirmed it)

He's not a sports Journo(many would say he's not a journo) the piece was more of a social commentary

That incredibly dumb Chris Lowry quote reminds me of one time when I was in the bar in Jury's after a Rep of Ireland game at eggchaser HQ. I was with a group of hacks who were talking about English football, one of whom - a woman - said that it would be great if there were Premiership clubs in countries across Europe. Thankfully, I had nothing sharp in my hands at the time.
Also: I recall some myopic GAA writer in the Turbine referring to Jason Sherlock as someone playing a 'minority sport' called 'Eircom League Soccer'.
Anyone who uses the term 'soccer' should be tossed over the M50 toll bridge.

I say that a sustained anti-herald publicity thing should be organised, if its just writing on your work table or putting up a banner at a ground, something has to be done to make the pr!cks feel the burn. Lads take the spray cans out and start graffiting, its free advertising space against the Herald, do it. The same could be done for FAI lure but one thing at a time.

It's the Evening Herald folks part of the Independent Group.

    Why is anyone surprised?

I hope you're joking. Banner would give them more publicity ffs.

Send emails to the editor and find out the journos personal email address.

But Gaelic football is unwatchable....it's only a game for bad hurlers!
Women's sports on the other hand are very entertaining. I have attended Soccer, basketball and hockey matches and each of those is less cynical than the male counterparts, with less gamesmanship, technical fouls etc!
