    Cherry Orchard and Sheffield Wednesday

I should probably know this, but is Cherry Orchard a feeder club for Wednesday? It can't be a co-incidence that Quinn, Geary and Whelan are all Cherry O players and started their English league career with the Owls. Coughlan is also an ex-Cherry O player but he didn't start with the Owls.

It seems to have been a great success (one international and two potential internationals). Are there many of these arrangements between English and Irish clubs? I remember Home Farm and Everton but nothing much came out of that as far as I remember.

Hmmm, maybe I am wrong since Wednesday signed Whelan from Man City but Geary and Quinn started at Wednesday.

AFAIK Man City did have a relationship with Cherry Orchard (Whelan and Flood both came from there) but I'm not sure of the exact nature of it.

Orchard link up with City - July 3, 2000

Cherry Orchard have become the latest Irish Schoolboy club to link up with a major club in England. It was announced over the weekend that Orchard are to link up with Manchester City and the deal is expected to be completed today.

The deal will allow City first choice of Cherry Orchard's players and in return Orchard will get coaching and financial backing from the Maine Road club.

Joe Royle and City's academy director, Jim Cassell, will be amongst the City party who will fly to Dublin today to sign the deal, which first came to light several months ago following the Blues' signing of youngster William Flood, which was followed by the acquisition of Stephen Paisley.

The link between City and Cherry Orchard will be of great benefit to both clubs, especially as City had to pay £38,000 in compensation to Stoke earlier this summer for 11-year-old Richard Minor after the youngster had signed a four-year deal with the Blues after leaving the Potters.

St Joey's of Sallynoggin are linked with Blackburn. Man City do have a link with the Orchard.
Man Ure and Shelbourne is one that there was a bit of fuss over I think?

Owls Fan, when I saw the thread's title on the main board I thought you were going to ask who'd win between the 2 teams.

I think there might be some link between UCD and Orchard, or maybe we just tend to watch their matches. I think we got Dicker from them.
