Actually Louth played in Croke Park in the Hurling last year and got beaten by London. This was in the Nicky Rackard Cup I think.

Your all entitled to your opinions on the new manager but you should never lose sight of the fact that there is only one man who can give the Irish fan's thumbs up or down to this appointment.
So what are Alan Hunter's thoughts on all this?!!!![]()

Don't you think it would be a wonderful gesture from Roy to the new manager wishing him well in his new role and if he is ever stuck for for a CM...![]()

Just when it was all startin' to sink in, and I was beginning to relucatantly accept it (I was warming to the idea of the 4 of them going to different games at the weekend, Stan saying he's open to Trundle and the eircom league, etc.), I watched the press conference...

kinda the way I felt on hearing the press conferance on the radio when I got home....was like a bad priest saying mass. Staunton comes accross very badly as a public speaker...
I agree with you and I made reference to his boring monotone on a previous thread. He doesn't have any BUZZ about him. He doesn't inspire and has no tactical experience. In the end he brings nothing to the table.Originally Posted by klein4
Ultimately I feel he will fail to motivate the players and the Irish public. The press conference today was dismal and depressing. Unless Staunton gets off to an immediate winning start they will get worse. The media enjoy a bit of banter. Staunton doesn't have it. The media will soon lose patience and kill the poor sod off.
Handy money though. Even if he fails, it will not be the worst thing that happened to him.
Not sure how you can make the leap from "not the best public speaker in the world" to "failure at international mgt" but anyway....Originally Posted by SunnySweeney
Think Stan was (understandably) a bit nervous but after the press conf. he was cracking jokes with some of the media during one-on-one interviews - the lad is well capable of handling himself!
As for the boring monotones etc....try a comedy club for comedy - I'm looking forward to a successful mgt and good results![]()

Was anyone else bored to tears listening to him?
I hope the plan is to have Bobby in our dressing room, giving the team talk and Stan in the opposition dressing room, putting them to sleep.
The sooner the football begins, the better because this is depressing stuff.

He was my choice because (a) He had managerial experience and some success; (b) He's an ex-Irish international; (c) He would bring passion to the job and (d) I don't think there would be the same negatively surrounding the appointment. I just don't see what Staunton possesses that he doesn't and he should have been interviewed by the FAI out of courtesy even if Delaney had made his mind up.
On a positive note: Appointment of Charlton not widely applauded and he was a success; appointment of Kerr widely applauded and he failed. Staunton not widely applauded and he will be a............
