I know Kevin Doyle scored after around 15 seconds last season for us against waherfurr.
Can anybody confirm (or deny) that Barry Ryan of Limerick holds the record for the fastest goal in League of Ireland football?
I was at the game against Kilkenny when he scored after 7 or 8 seconds, (this was the season we got promoted under Sam Allerdyce) and I think I remember it being credited as the fastest at that time.
I've just been on the official FAI website, and, surprise surprise, they didnt have it, or any other record for that matter. The site is 50% advertising and 50% garbage.

Fastest I've seen is about 10 seconds (think that's what the papers gave) for Glen Crowe for Bohs v. UCD in 2000/01. Crowe went on to get a hat-trick as Bohs won 4-3 - great game.
Peter Hutton against us at richmond December 2002. Scored after 7 seconds but we won 3-1. Was away at the time but remember "watching" it on livescore.

Was that Hutton or Liam Coyle? Remember a goal when the entire Rovers team stood off Coyle from tip and he waltzed through the mud to go up and score. The mud probably slowed him down though. Won TV3's Goal of the Month somehow too!

Shamrock Rovers 3 Derry City 1
Peter Hutton scored one of the fastest goals in League of Ireland history, but it couldn't arrest Derry's poor run.
Hutton collected Liam Coyle's pass following the kick-off to shoot past Tony O'Dowd with just seven seconds on the clock.
how times have changes since that!
And it was from our kick-off.Originally Posted by dcfc_1928
It was a horrible wet Monday night and Coyler only lasted another couple of minutes after the goal. He literally gave-up and you couldn't blame him.

A little discrepancy with the time of the goal in this article from UEFA.com
Landmark goal
On Monday evening, Shamrock Rovers FC moved within three points of Cork as they registered a 3-1 win against Derry City FC. Derry went ahead after just nine seconds when Peter Hutton scored the fastest goal in the history of the league.
Think Kieren O'Reilly scored after 14 seconds or something for ramblers against monaghan
"They have the internet on computers now!" ,Homer Simpson
does anybody know where i might find a definitive list? To see if Barry Ryans name is even on there, because I'm sure it was faster than 9 seconds...........how I can be so sure I dont know, but surely, somebody, somewhere, must have an official list..........??
I think Glen Crowe scored the fastest EL goal of all time in Bray in 2001.
No there was a much more recent one, Im pretty sure the fastest ever goal was scored against waterford by cork. It was last season or the season before
I don't think there is a "list" as such, however apart from the Peter Hutton goal, a quick Google uncovers the following:
Kieran O Reilly - Cobh Ramblers website
Leading scorer in the Eircom League first Div for the 1st part of the season with possibly the fastest goal in league history with a 14 sec goal against Monaghan.
UCD v Bohs (February 2001) Report from The Irish Examiner
The match had an amazing start when Crowe nodded home a long ball from veteran defender Tony O’Connor over the head of the advancing Barry Ryan.
The goal came after just eleven seconds. But Crowe was denied a place in the history books as the scorer of the fastest goal of all time in the Eircom League.
Dublin referee John Feighery had ordered a second kick off as several players had encroached the centre circle. The official timing for the goal was later revealed as 17 seconds by fourth official Eddie Barr.
Beyond those, I personally remember John McDaid scoring very early in a game for Derry City (circa 1988) - 16 seconds I think
I think it oculd even have been a third kick-off!Originally Posted by dcfc_1928
I wuold very much doubt there is an official list, osarusan - sorry! Just the way the league is run...
Daryl Murphy broke a league of Ireland record in the fai cup game against kilkenny, he scored 4 goals in 15 minutes.
So its settled then - Hutton it is.
I remember John Bacon scoring one very quickly for Derry against Dundalk the early 90s.
12 seconds sticks in my haad for that one, but I could be wrong!
I disagree i remember EL weekley saying that that cork goal was the quickestOriginally Posted by dancinpants
