    O'DONNELL SIGNS FOR DUBLIN CITY
Eircom League Premier Division new boys
Dublin City have signed Mick O'Donnell,
who was released by UCD at the end of
    last season.

The 28-year-old had spent 10 years at
Belfield Park with The Students, making
    over 200 appearances.

Dublin City boss Dermot Keely said:
Mick is a first class player with lots
of experience and I know he will do
    well for us.'

'He is a clever footballer, has a
tremendous attitude and he's a winner.'

    --------------------------------------------------------

Lets hope he plays left back against us next season. On a serious note, glad to see he has found himself a Premier Division club. Best of luck to him as long as it's not to our detriment.

After a meeting of the eL writers association it was decided that UCDD could not use the nickname 'The Students' unless at least 50% of the first team squad were currently studying something.

No seriously, is he dying or what?

I'm a bit of a Johnny come lately but Micko has often horrified me at left back this season. Often caught out of position and done for pace. Slows down the attacking play awfully and very slow to distribute the ball. However he gives his all and is strong in the tackle. The lads assure me he has had some great seasons with us at left wing and was voted fans' player of the year. He's experienced and versatile and is a handy player to have around but if you intend him to start him as yur regular left back then you'll have problems in my opinion.

Cheers for that. Can't say it fills me with confidence though. Hopefully he can regain some form with us, or failing that Damien Brenann makes the left-full position his own...

He's one of your not very spectacular but very efficient and effective players. Didn't have a great season this year, but was probably being played out of position at left-back - he's usually left-wing. I can only assume that Mahon was aware we'd be re-signing Daz Ryan and Cawley and decided they gave him more options than Micko. I think this is the only transfer - bar Newguy, but that was his call apparently - which will come back to haunt us.
