    Thumbs down More Spanish racism

Atletico Madrid have been fined 6000 euros by the Spanish Football Federation for the racial abuse of Espanyol's Cameroon goalkeeper Carlos Kameni in a league match last month. In other Spanish news, Florentino Perez admits that Real have lost their way and Wanderlei claims he just needed more time.

Although the fan abuse was not noted in referee Arturo Dauden Ibanez's match report, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) said it acted after a complaint from the government-run Anti-violence Commission which estimated that some 500 fans had been involved in the incidents.

Atletico, who were fined for similar offences last season, said that they had done everything in their power to stop the abuse.

Spain increased the punishments given to clubs for racist abuse in July and Primera Liga sides can now be fined between 6,000 and 18,000 euros depending on the number of fans involved and the action taken to deal with the incident.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter on Tuesday called for a tougher approach to the problem, including the possibility of docking points and excluding clubs from competitions for persistent breaches.

Is it just me or are the Spanish fans doing this a lot in the past few years?.

The same fans have always done it, it's just the English media went mad about it and Aragones and his comments on Henry to Reyes that it has been highlighted more and dare I say it, the Spanish Federation are doing anything about it publicly..

and it's not gonna be three
and it's not gonna be four
it's more likely to be 5-1.

There should be absolutley no quarter given to anyone over this disgusting behaviour. If UEFA and the big football federations have any balls in tackling this problem they would do so. But docking points and exclusion from competition would hurt the big boys so I have little faith in the threat being carried out.

It's not just Spain or Italy either. Many Ajax fans identify their club as a Jewish club, so Feyenoord fans make hissing noises. This has been going on for 20 years unpunished.

In fairness there's not a lot that clubs can do to stop this.

these incidents are sickening. Its high time the Spanish and Italian clubs got a massive penality and put an end to this pathetic racist element

in fairness thats a major cop out. Of course the clubs can do something about it. They can identify who is behind it and ban them. Or walk off the field if that sort of behaviour starts. That's just off the top of my head. Get their own African players to interact with the fans, get them to visit schools etc etc

Not sure if any of those suggestions are the answer, but there is definitely a role for clubs in stopping this

very interesting book on that very topic casts doubts on whether Ajax did all they could to protect Dutch jews before and during the world war
