Greetings o silent ones, and a happy xmas!
Sad for us, but best wishes to CC in the next round
In the Connacht U-16 Cup holders Merville United were beaten 3-2 by Castlebar Celtic in Celtic Park, Castlebar. Merville were the better side in the first half and were unlucky not to be leading at the break as Mark O'Dowd had a shot that came back off the post.
Merville took the lead in the early stages thanks to a goal from Mark Halton but Castlebar levelled soon after as they were awarded a questionable penalty. Castlebar built on that to open up a 3-1 lead but Merville got back into the game as they won a penalty that was duly converted by their goal-keeper Mark Rooney. Despite a strong finish by Merville, Castlebar held on for the win.
