The N55 between Ballinagh, Co Cavan, and Granard, Co Longford, has reopened following an accident earlier today.

More than 5,000 chickens were spilled into the carriageway from a lorry, creating dangerous driving conditions.

A crane was brought in to remove the lorry, and a second truck was put in place to remove the poultr

Eggs had broken in the carriageway, and some of the chickens were laying there.

Diversions were in place for a time along the adjacent regional routes which are narrower and more hazardous. All restrictions have since been lift

At first, the police saw a 4 door sedan leaving the scene, but later found out it was a coupe!

In 6 months time I can just picture it. At a dinner table somewhere between Cavan and Longford, a young lad staring up from his plate, "Ah jaysus, not fookin' chicken tonight AGAIN mammy!!"

I'm sure that a Kentucky Fried Chicken premises can be built at the eggsident site so that there will be a permanent henmorial to the scene of the fowl tragedy. I'm sure that all the cocks will rejoice in glory!!
