    ROI rivalry

Was just wondering after reading about the all Ireland team thread who most fans in ROI would class as their biggest rivals on the international stage. For me and most NI fans it would have to be ROI and England of course. But Was just curious to hear if you as a nation have the same rivalry for OWC.

I reckon the state of our team is summed up by the notion that the Swiss are our biggest rivals

I passionately want to give Israel and Switzerland an absolute hammering, a solid 3-0 beating with them scoring an own goal at some point and missing an open goal at another. I shudder just thinking of those two teams.

As for England, it would be great to give them a beating just to see the reaction of the worst parts of the English media.

As for the North, I like to see them doing well. Memories of Belfast in 1993 are still fairly strong but I don't remember any of that whenever they came here so it was obviously just a local scumbag element.

ask those who said switzerland the same question in 5 years time. nonsense, some immediate bad blood, but it will pass.

the brits will always be the team we want to beat and see lose.

Which "brits" might they be then? Your definition gives you three (and for some arguably four ) teams to pick from...

    England - no contest.

Swiss are due a hiding and maybe we can administer that in their own tournament in 2008.

England without a doubt, where people are getting the Swiss from I don't know .They beat us a couple of times but they are no way near our biggest rivals.Which game would stir up most interest and make the whole country watch and make the team want to win the most,Ireland v Switzerland or Ireland v England.

Only three since we're merging with one of them.

Technically though, NI isn't part of Britain, it's part of the United Kingdom.

Perhaps our hooped friend thinks that the 3 nations of Great Britan should unite as well?

For me it would be England. I like to see Northern Ireland do well except when in our group. The first World Cup I can really remember is 1982 and Spain v NI and France v Germany being the 2 matches I remember most.

Definitely ingurlund. Having said this I think that this rivalry, like the one between Northern Ireland and ourselves, is pretty one sided. I reckon that if you asked an England fan who their main rival was they'd probably say Germany. We wouldn't even come into the equation.
