Nominations are invited for the ninth annual Sligo Weekender-Ulster Bank Sligo Sports Awards, the winners of which will be announced at a ceremony in the New Year.

With Sligo Rovers having lifted the eircom League First Division crown in 2005, they are sure to be represented on the short-list for the Sligo Sports Star of the Year award.

Sean Connor’s side booked their return to the top flight with ultra-consistent performances in the Belfast man’s first full season in charge.

Connor himself, top scorer Paul McTiernan, captain Michael McNamara and midfielder Conor O’Grady are expected to be among those nominated for the award.

The closing date for receipt of nominations is Wednesday, December 14, 2005, and the awards winners will be honoured at a ceremony to be held at the Sligo Park Hotel on February 6th next.

Nominations, which must be in writing and include a contact number for the nominee as well as a synopsis of the nominee’s sporting achievements in 2005, should be sent to: ‘Sligo Sports Awards 2005’, c/o Liam Ó Maoldhomhnaigh, Sligo Weekender, Waterfront House, Bridge Street, Sligo.
