Exclamation I need help for my internet at home

    here is the problem:

Any time I try get connect to the internet the page ("this page cannot be displayed") comes up.

Everything is connected properly, all the lights are flashing on the broadband ariel. The computer reconises that the broadband is connected.

I'm still waiting for the Irish broadband engineers to sort it out.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

It could be a spyware thing. I had something similar. Try running spybot, and if it can download the updates, its not your connection.

Cheers I'll try all that when i get home.

It won't let me send e-mails in outlook either.

I ran the anti-nortus virus scanner and it found no virus'.

Any more ideas would also be helpful.

IBB is up and down like a hoors knickers at the moment, including several complete, country-wide outages. So it could just be that.

See the number of threads regarding IBB here. I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole designed for maneuvering the ISS from Corcaigh.

Seeing as no external action is happening despite everything appearing fine, maybe your firewall is overly protective and is blocking all traffic?

Cheers for all the help lads. I got it working on Monday evening, however, there is still a slight problem.

The Shels Web is the only site I can visit (I have changed my home page numerous of times but it's still the same problem).
On the Shels site I can go into all the links except one.....the fans forum (which is the one I mainly use).
    When I do click on the forum link this comes up;

    http://www.dv4.com/

Which is a link that is a sponsor on the Shels home page.

This does not only happen on the shels site. Even if I try to go to the foot.ie forum or any other web site for that matter the same link always comes up not matter what.

    Any ideas??

check your hosts file, it's in the windows\system32\drivers\etc folder
This file keeps the ip address of websites on your machine so it doesn't have to look them up off the net, something could be writing in addresses in there to force your computer to go to that site - a particularly nasty virus my parent's machine had once did exactly that
you'll have to open it in notepad, there should only be one entry in there,

    127.0.0.1 localhost

If there's anything else in there you've got a virus updating it

Also, try using one of the alternative browsers - Firefox or Opera - and see if you have the same problem, it could be a problem with internet explorer

What through it all last night and "127.0.01 localhost" was the only IP address in that folder.

I'll try download firefox in awhile and hopefully this will sort the problem.

    .

I had problems with checking email with Norton 05, I had to take down the firewall every time I wanted to check my mail using Norton 06 now and have no problems.

As somebody said try deleting your cookies and temp internet files.

Also on internet options make sure you don’t have Restricted sited enabled this will also cause a few problems. And also on Internet Options check that the privacy is at Medium anything over that will block sites.
