Still one nil to Linfield at half time, they have had more chances and missed a penalty. Half time now.

3-0 to Linfield. Final Score. Hattrick from Glen Ferguson. Glens look like a better footballing side but they performed poorly. Linfield's defence looked very strong. Linfield are averaging 4 goals a game in the league and are undefeated. No doubt they will see no reason why they can't reclaim their Setanta title.

While i think that most of the eircom league sides are technically better, Linfield are a great side right now ... tough task for anyone up against them!

I have to say I agree but then we took that attitude into the last Setanta. Jeffrey certainly has them fired up and motivated. They're not just beating teams, they're murdering them. Have to say, they played a lot better football in the Setanta. For me Linfield resemble Shels and Cork Glens. Glens seem to be more nimble and capable of fluid football but Linfield are physically stronger and have strong strikers.

The nordies have completely been given the upper hand here .... the eircom lads will be a month off their pre-season training, a whole month is too much, you only start getting anyway fit in the last part of pre-season training .... we even struggled at that stage last year as the lads were not match fit, now they wont be fit at all. And we could have nearly 50 games or over next year again so pre-season is really important this time around.

It is just because the nordies wont be paid after their league ends and wont be around again.

Pimping should be outlawed everywhere .... public flogging should be the penalty and no pity should be shown !!

Off topic but when I was watching Aberdeen v Celtic on Setanta last week the commentator said that Don Givens had reccomended Richie Byrne (ex-Rovers) to clubs in Britain.

Some people dont know what they are talking about!

To say that most southern teams are technically better than Northern counterparts is such a joke. True some teams do have great players who could play for any top team up north, but it would be the same down south with Northern Players. Glen ferguson, Stephen Carson, Chris Kingsburry, Garry Hamilton, Peter Thompson and many more are technically as good as anyone down south in theyre possition. There is no forward down south who could replace Glen Ferguson. Being a more fulltime league does make it a little easier to attract a higher quality player, but they are few and far between. Shels or Cork might have some great players in certain possitions, but so do Linfield and Glentoran. The real difference is fitness. When Linfield and Glentoran go fulltime you will see a hell of a difference, as they will eat, sleep, and drink football, but for now they will still work another job to supplement their living. Southern people are not born with better football skills, just are having better opportunities in last few years.

Great footballers all over Ireland North and South.

Great post! A succinct summation as to how things stand. Or as they would say 'round our way, "you've hit the nail on the head!"
