    7th? Wtf?

How on earth did we go from 2nd-> 5th-->7th....

at least 5th would have been respectful compared to last year but 7th is a joke

I wondered how long it would take.

If you are going to compare it to last year then you have no argument. Compared to last year we excelled. Last season we won 4 games out of 33. All of them 1-0 wins by the way. We scored 18 goals!

This season we scored 44 goals and had 13 wins. Last season we lost 21 games (out of 33 that's almost 2/3 of our games). This season we lost 14 (or just over a third).

Last season we finished rock bottom and we finished 56 points behind the top side! (Yes, 56 points). This year, although dropping four spots in the last two weeks when the season was effectively over, we finished 13 points behind the top team (or 11 off the play off spot).

If you don't think we have achieved a "respectful" (sic) outcome comapred to last season I think you need to think again.

Now whether we achieved what we should have achieved given the potential at the start of the season that is a different matter. I heard Tommy Barrett on the radio on Sunday saying that the players were disappointed with how the season panned out and he pointed to a lack of consistency in performance and poor home form as the problems. Seems fair enough to me.

    Fair Enough indeed.

Comparing this season to last when you consider the circumstances, on the other hand, is not very fair at all

The last 2 matches showed that the squad were only seeing out the season as to be honest, there was really very little to play for in terms of promotion/re-election. Some might argue that there was 6k (i think) for finishing 4th but I think when you look at the squad (especially the subs) you could see NOC wasn't overly bothered about the last 2 fixtures.
Just wondering has Jamie Nolan departed, will Carthy be back next season and what of CP O'Brien, is he still on the books???? As far as I know Mcgrath is going back to UK, transfer window back open in January. Hopefully all the gyuys who have been a success for the blues this season will return next season, we have the basis of a good squad but need to add a bit more quality from the midfield upwards if we are to get back to the promised land next season. Also best of luck to Robbie K with his trial, hope it all works out for him.

To be honest lads i think this season has been very disapointing on several fronts. We're already talking about players leaving when all season long players have been coming and going. Inconsistancy on the pitch has mirrored the inconsistancy off the pitch. We had coaches, then they're dumped. We have promises of seats, then none. We were led to believe hogan park was in the hands of drew, then we see its not. We had money coming to the club, then we dont. We buy a player and can't play him because he's ineligable, we have a good and consistant goal scorer (Carthy), then we let him rot in waterford, we get in players and throw them away... the club (drew) speaks of ambition at this club and provides more false dawns in case we forget what that feels like. This club should be finishing in a respectable position in the premier. Some say look at last year before speaking of this year. Last year we had nothing, we were an absolute disgrace of a club run by simple little men. Limerick is a big football town, we have scores of good players playing in limerick week in week out, the potential has always been there. Had someone come in with a proper plan and vision to ensure its sucess, limericks potential could have been realised. Instead we have seen our chairman make mistake after mistake and when he's not messing it up off the pitch, noel is messing it up on the pitch. Why SHOULD anyone pay good money to watch whats been slopped out in front of us. We have some really good players being limited by simplistic management and its not good enough, simple as that. Until this half arsed situation changes we can all forget about premier football for a very long time. Small towns are CONTINUING to eclipse us in irish football. Its disgracefull and limerick people know it. THAT mr. drew is why you don't have the crowds from the good old days. Well that and addressing them as scumbags of course.

Lets nail one point straight away - this season is a vast improvement on last season's debacle. I think we can all agree that.

I think though it is asking a lot to turn around a club in one season. We have spent 12 years (?) in the First Division and the structures have been completely dysfunctional in that time. I had hoped for a lot better this season myself but i see a lot of positives and on balance that is acceptable. We have 300ish at the Kildare game - a meaningless fixture. In the last few seasons we struggled to get 100 at games that mattered. I think this shows there is an appetite for senior soccer in the city.

I think NOC has been terrible this season. Tactically we have been limited and team selection has been at best bizarre at times. I think he must carry the can for the failure to finish higher. The management of the club is like a curates egg - good in parts. The organisation of games and sponsorship was top class. The dealings with players and supporters not good enough.

I am willing to put this season's problems down to inexperience at runnign a club and assembling a squad. Expecting to get a full squad together at the start of the season and sticking with that the whole way through may not have been realistic. However, wholesale changes aren't good. I'm worried the better players maybe poached e.g. Finny, Tommy, Robbie, McGrath, Noel. The club has to move now to hold onto as many of these players as possible.

I hope we hold onto the better players for next season and get some consistency in selection and the manager realises that teh players he has can play more football and to trust them more.

I travel up from Cork for matches and it may be a simplistic analysis but this season i travelled with the expectation (mostly correct) that the team would at least compete. Previous years I travelled hoping we would not lose by too much (and I also brought my boots in the car just in case). Last season was far from perfect, but was an advance. The important thing is to take that on the next step next year.

I think next year the league will be really competitive. The likes of us,yereselves,Dundalk and Harps will except nothing but promotion and all the management inolved know that. Then you have the likes of Kilkenny and Cobh who can seriously challenge aswell. It's gonna be very interesting next year.

Don't forget the mighty Shamrock Rovers

Anything other than champions is unacceptable for me next year to be honest. NOC at the moment has at his disposal 6 (maybe 7 if you include Derek McCarthy) players who would waltz into any team in this division. Fair enough they might not all be here next season but in several cases that will be as much down to NOC as anyone else. Failing to beat Cobh and Dundalk this season and losing twice to Kilkenny and Galway is quite frankly embaressing for a club like Limerick (Yes, yes I realise we lost more last year, blah, blah etc. before someone points it out) but when you look at the team we have/had you realise the buck does indeed stop with NOC

tommy wants to go sit on the bench at cork rather than play for limerick?
as good as tommy is for us hes not a patch on joey gamble. then theres georgie o callaghan, greg o halloran and colin o brien to name another three in the cork midfield.

not offence to tommy...but what with cork playing in champs league qualifiers next season i reckon they'll be setting their sights on a higher standard/more experienced midfielder than tommy.
