It is a tragedy to see any club go down for the first time after 8 decades of league membership especially because of a points deduction caused by two *****s that almost killed the club and who no longer have any association with the club.
At least Cork and Derry city did the league a favour by spreading the success around the country and giving the league a great finish.

    It's called rivalry you mong.
What is it with Rovers fans that they think everybody else needs them. I suppose the likes of Kilkenny City and Monaghan Utd will be deleriously happy that they are now potential multi-millionaires on the back of the mighty Rovers playing them in a match.

In case you didn't notice the Bohs/Rovers fixture is worth as much in money terms to Rovers as it is to Bohs. But you guys also have to miss out on your lucrative fixtures against Shels, Pats, Cork, and Drogheda. You will also feel the bite of reduced sponsorship and the cost of every away game being something you have to travel to. Also the floating hoop fan might just decide to drive his taxi or deal his drugs instead of going to see you play at home to Cobh Ramblers. So lap it up.

Don't worry about us, Bohemians have lots of latent resourses we'll get over the financial "disaster" of not having to host you scumbags. In fact a little birdie has told me that the 400 Club have already made an approach to Bohemians about renting Dalymount Park next season - looks like we might be leeching more money out of your coffers yet.
    Cogito ergo Bohs

Or when you go to play them away from home, the ground (wherever that will be this time) is like a morgue, except for same soul with drum? It's depressing, and it's even more depressing when you see them and their empty ground on tv. As far as i'm concerned they're a fabricated club going nowhere in the long term. I think the travesty is that a club like this keeps taking up a place in the premier every second season.

Rovers on the other hand are a good club with a great history, who are striving to do their best to get themselves back in order after years of mismanagement. Granted a lot of their fans are scumbags, but a lot of them are also among the most dedicated in Europe and the 400club is evidence of that. I'd take them anyday over Irelands version of MK Dons (minus the fans). Dublin City are no addition to the premier, so I can't see how tonight is good for the league.....
Exactly. Today was a bad day for Irish football and i think nearly everyone here can agree on that...

bad news for Rovers but worse for the league !!

All efforts now have to be summoned to gt Rovers back up .... everyone involved needs to get behind this and get back up asap. There is a wealth of experience there and all this needs to come inot play.

Best of luck to all the hoops ... there is a short journey back up if there are many traveling together !!

Say what you will about Dublin and their fanbase, they wont try any b*ll*cks like trying to storm the away section after matches. I wont miss that, and they're promoted on merit. If they bring nothing to the league it's upto everyone else to be better than them and force them back down.

I don't know about the rest of you but I go to games to support my team. It doesn't matter if we're playing Kilkenny in a sloped field in a pre-season friendly or Derry in a League Cup final, I will be there and I will enjoy it if we win and hate it if we lose. I don't rely on the opposition and their fans to make it enjoyable for me. I won't actually miss Rovers and I say that with my hand on my heart. My team makes my games for me. If we play well I am happy, if they don't, then I am not. Rovers don't even bring anything to Belfield. Last time they barely even brought any fans.

Dublin City are there on merit, they've invested so much time and effort in their club to get back into the Premier and for a club only 4/5 years old as far as I'm concerned they're a huge credit to this league and they don't come full of crap that comes with Rovers.

There's no point moaning now Rovers, you got what you deserved. Your club has made a mockery of our domestic league in recent years be it from finances to doing absolutely nothing about your hoolie problem. I personally will be happier attending matches with Dublin City rather than going to watch Shels playing Rovers knowing there's going to be some sort of hoolie trouble.

If you sort yourselves out next season from getting your house in order and finally acknowledging and doing something about your hooligan problem then I'll welcome you guys back in the Premier.

Dublin City are the winners tonight and everyone should give them the deserved credit they are due.

    Quite. Simply. Sad.

Firstly, I do want to be overly patronised by people saying oh wouldn't it be great if Rovers were there instead, but "rivalry" is obviously mistaken for obsession by some 'rivals'.

Secondly, I am not going to bother getting into a pointless argument with any Bohs fan tonight. Tonight, for me, has nothing to do with Bohs fans.

Zipedeedoodaa, Zipedeedooday, my oh my, what (another) beautiful day!

Fantastic night for Irish football, delighted to see the homeless where they belong! Well done, Dublin City, you've made a lot of Bohs fans very, very happy.

    Champagne anyone?

Besides, finally, next season the premier league might have that strong Rovers team it apparently needs. Good luck to Sligo.

No club is bigger than the league and no club deserves the right to be in the Premier division.

The league didn't lose anything tonight and it didn't gain anything either.

I think people jumping in feet first to post now is stupid .... let it lie and reply tomorrow. The impact on the league will be sizable i would think despite what singular opinions might be.

As i said ... Rovers should take stock and look and gather resources to get back up, all focus should be on that.

One thing is for sure this is great for the 1st Divison....adds a bit of interest to it.Galway,Harps,Rovers....3 clubs who should be in the premier and one of them is guaranteed at least 2 more years in this **** hole of a league. Can't wait for next year.....bar us nobody in this league brings an away support(sligo are up)so at least there will be 4 matches with great atmosphere's in Terryland next year.

Absolutely, Athlone Town and Dundalk, to name just two clubs, were massive clubs in the eL within the last 20 years. What f**king right do the Shambles have ahead of these? None whatsoever! This homeless arselicking is pathetic. They're down now, they have the to earn the right to be back up with the BIG CLUB & Co.

How Aface? Apart from some individual subjective opinions how they enjoy the atmosphere of playing Rovers, how will there be a sizeable impact on the league?

How so? Honestly, if they were going out of business I'd feel sorry for them, but they're only going down a division ffs. If it is so disasterous for the premier then it's surely fantastic for the first division.

I don't see why it's such a disaster though, as Bohs Till I Die said, the added revenue of a dublin derby with them is compensated by the security costs the scum that attaches itself to their club generates. To clubs outside Dublin they'll barely notice the difference except maybe Cork who seem to have a bit of a rivalry with them that can boost gates.

Athlone and Dundalk .... and Limerick and Waterford to boot, were great in their hay-day (sp?) .... i am not saying that ..... what i am saying is that Shamrock Rovers were the league at one stage, and that was a long long stage .... more people across Europe, IF they have heard of Ireland probably know of Rovers .... and none else ...... no Athlone, Dundalk, Limerick, Waterford ... even Cork City .... that is what we'll miss .... i know people dont see this straight away .... but time will tell if they are no back up quick smart !!

They're not gone out of existence, only relegated. And history has nothing to do with their current team and clown of a manager.

And tbh thanks to the Deportivo thing last year that foreigners thing isn't true now anyway I'd say.

Anyway, I would not be suprised to see them in the premier divison next season. The FAI afterall haven't decided how many teams we'll have next year, and wont do until febuary. What a competent bunch of people

Bad Day for Rovers, Great Day for Socialism

James Connolly and Larkin will be cheering,
Behold the red flag fluttering on high.
Its what the aristocracy was fearing,
As peasants smash the windows at Versailles.

    The Internationale sounds out strongly,
As gold is snatched from fat and grubby hands.
The so-called experts all forecast it wrongly –
A ray of hope goes out to many lands.

For too long now the Premier Division
Has creamed what cash our football generates,
While lesser clubs are treated with derision
And forced to live off ever-dwindling gates.

But now the mighty Rovers are defeated
    Their Majesties are slickly overthrown,
And next year their supporters will be treated
To trips to lovely Limerick and Athlone.

To Monaghan and Galway and Kilkenny,
The Hoops will bring their monetary support.
And yes, they’re sure to spend a pretty penny
At clubs who’ve been financially distraught.

So up and holler Vive la Revolution!
And raise a glass to Dermot Keely’s health.
    For Dublin City’s perfect execution
    Redistributed some of football’s wealth.
No Elvis, Beatles or the Rolling Stones
