    Riga information please

Lads and lassies, Im thinking about going to Riga for a weekend in January. I know it'll be cold, but can anyone recommend it as a good spot for a few days? Or suggest somewhere else kinda different?

Was there when Ireland played them a few years back and had only recently freed themselves from the yoke of Soviet imperialism so it was just getting off the ground. The women were gorgeous and friendly but I remember ordering what was down as chicken in bread crumbs but was obviously a stray pigeon that had come to a nasty end

Only there for 24 hours (day tripper!!) so didn't get to see much of the place.

A good few of us based ourselves there when City were drawn (a bus ride away) In Lithuania.

I thought it was a great spot, though I don't think it'd hold your attention for more than a couple of days (especially in January, in the summer, you can go to the beach for a day etc.).

If you're looking for a chilled out, inexpensive place to enjoy some beer and food and an occasional wander it's well worth a visit. The women are spectacular as well.

Good spot alright but can't say moved around the town too much. Beer & food is dirt cheap & good quality. Accomodation seemed to be trickey to find & not as cheap as other things.

yeah accomodation thats cheap and half decent is hard to find-looking at 60-70 spuds for a 3 star hotel which seems very expensive to me-apparently the "old town" is the place to stay. very central. im heading over in march so let us all know how you get on!

Beer and food are for nothing and are good. Vodka is literally as good as free!
    The women are absolutely amazing.
Just try not to get into any fights with bouncers of dodgy back street strip clubs!

That's about the size of it. It did have this sort of depressing feel about the place but apparently it's come on leaps and bounds since then (1994). If you're open to suggestions and are looking to go somewhere off the beaten track, Tallinn in Estonia is a cracking town.
