    The way forward

Genesis, the sports management consultants whose recent study proposes huges
changes to the Eircom League, have taken up an invitation from Galway United
to come to the city and outline the implications of the plan.

Galway United, who were singled out at the launch of the study last month
for the quality of its strategic plan, has strong ambitions that it will be
included among an elite group to contest a ten-team superleague.

A large cross section from the sporting, business, political, legal,
financial and tourism sectors in Galway have been invited to attend the
presentation which will take place in the Radisson SAS Hotel on Thursday,
    November 24th.

Brian Mc Neice, Senior Consultant with Genesis, will give a short
    presentation on their findings.

Deputy Michael D Higgins, President of Galway United, will also address the
gathering, along with the clubıs Commercial Manager Nick Leeson.

Mr Leeson said that the proposals arising from the Genesis report present
Galway United with a significant opportunity for inclusion among an elite
group of clubs in a centrally marketed and promoted Super League in 2007.

The eveningıs presentation will examine the scale of the opportunity and
outline what the club needs to do to capitalise.

The benefits to the local economy of having a National League football
franchise in an area will also be outline.

    It was excellent

one of the most positive meetings ive been at.It will mean a lot of clubs falling by the wayside including some of the bigger clubs if they dont get their act together.I can see strong resistance from some quarters but if it doesnt happen i can see the league collapsing with numerous clubs going to the wall.

Personally i think a 10 team super league is too small but the man from Genesis was very compelling in his points and every club will have to wake up and smell the roses or they will miss the boat.

    GUFCT ,
I don't think that will happen in the eircom League as the league will just bend the rules slightly or get a special disposition to allow the half arsed teams take part and belittle the hard work done by clubs like Galway.
