    Eviston gone too

Shamrock Rovers wish to announce that former player and manager Alan O'Neill is joining the club in a temporary capacity as a special advisor, effective from tomorrow (Friday) night's Eircom League game against UCD at Belfield.

One of the Hoops' greatest and most-popular players, Alan joined Rovers in 1975, and quickly established himself as first-team goalkeeper before going on a very successful playing career path that bridged three decades.

Having left Rovers for UCD in 1983, he rejoined the club ten years later and was a member of Rovers' championship-winning team of 1993-94, the last Hoops side to win the title.

During a period as manager in 1996 he rejuvenated a struggling Rovers and achieved a fifth-place finish in the Premier Division, before departing to concentrate on a career in coaching. He is currently goalkeeping coach with the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad.

We are sure Alan will be given a very warm welcome when he returns to the fold tomorrow night.

Shamrock Rovers have also regretfully accepted the resignation of assistant manager Terry Eviston. The club thanks Terry for his services to Shamrock Rovers and wishes him every success in his future endeavours.

I reckon it's just a game of bluff and double bluff between Roddy and the 400 Club. They can't afford the settlement if they sack him so they're trying to push him into resigning. He's doing his best with his off-the-field antics to get himself sacked so he can get a hefty pay-off from the club. They don't want him, he doesn't want to be there.

You don't get a pay off if your sacked for misconduct or even simply, not being good enough for the job. Can't understand why Rovers have waited so long. Sack him, whats he going to do sue them? He knows mnore than most they haven't got a pot to **** in, never mind the fact the sacking would be 100% deserved.

Glad they haven't because he's good for the league (i.e. Getting Rovers relegated)

dunno what league you were watchin mate, but rovers have been struggling for a few years now, and not all of it can be put on shoddy

on a serious note tho, whilst ye would have had to eventually get rid of the leech, is yer timing not a bit suspect??? a week before one of the most important games in the clubs recent history is not the best time to be sacking (or talking about sacking)ur manager, the disruption is could cause in the dressing room could be damaging
arent we all just magic little monkeys...

anyone would be better then collins,
he turned a good club into a leinster seinor club in the space of a few months.

Most top Leinster Sen League Clubs would knock seven lump's of Doo Doo out of Rovers at the mo. Dont be putting down the LSL, anyway Rovers already have a team in there. Maybe Roddy could find himself out in Tallaght sooner then he thinks, but not in a stadium..

The goalkeeper is the jewel in the crown and getting at him should be almost impossible. It's the biggest sin in football to make him do any work." George Graham.

Cool. We should do this more often.
