They were on the plane that came off the runway at Sligo airport 3 years ago. They were ok though
.
Since following Shels I never paid attention to it, but I probably met a Famous Irishman already in the ground... I didn't have a clue what their music sounded like, but I checked their website and "Fall on me" is damn catchy![]()
Are they around long time or is it a quite recent band? Indie or mainstream success?
Apart from the recordstores here in Belfast, I've never seen any Aslan record in a non-ROI record store.
I see they're touring the Green Island now, but that they ignore/skip our Six CountiesNot a single gig here in the North FFS!

Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
They're a very famous band in Dublin/Ireland.. Im really surprised you haven't heard of them! I didnt know they only stayed in RoI, but I do know they toured Oz. Crazy world, This is, and their covers of Pink floyd songs are anthems in the Dub.. They have been around a long time, since the eighties, they were tipped for the top but their lead singer Christy Dignam got addicted to heroine which supposely made them miss the boat, they have a big story ranging from Christy nearly been murdered by the late Paschal Boland (notorious drug ganster), him being kicked out of the band and the bands long feud with U2. They actually won a lifetimes achievement award at the meteor awards this year and have a huge following in Dublin were they play pubs all year round and normally have one big point depot gig a year. Im not a big fan really, mainly because they haven't really come up with anything decent for years but keep on releasing greatest hits, made in Dublin, and other various albums that all have the same songs on them. Really worth seeing live though.Originally Posted by Gerrit

What kind of tripe are you talking about? Are you drunk? Aslan are huge in Ireland, Fact! They've always been in and around the top ten. I never said I like them, they're mostly liked by 14 - 20 year olds. I knew the great people of Cork would have to have a pop..
They are terrible! I only hate David Kitt more...
playing in The Brewery in Sligo in a few weeks
Aslan are dublin based with dublin following.
I am not a fan of Aslan, at all, but to say that they only have a Dublin following is blatantly untrue. I believe that the majority of their gigs are outside of Dublin.Originally Posted by pete
Well, they sound like a good act to see live, but they don't seem to cross the border... No gig in Northern Ireland planned it seems.
Bizarre, they play in small cities like Enfield and Navan, but not in Belfast?!Doesn't make sense...
I'm not going down south for a band I hardly know, but if they were playing here I'd give it a go and see what it's like. Maybe I should rent a CD and if I like it I probably won't be able to resist to travel when there's a gig not too far away (Cavan and Longford seem the closest ones ?)
Their gig list shows places all across the country, only a few ones in Dublin. Bizarrely enough some of the venues seem to be common pubs instead of concert halls...
Just as hearing the "Fields of Athenry" makes me wish i was wasnt Irish,Hearing anything from Aslan, makes me wish i wasnt a Dub or a Shels supporter
Sh!te band with a f*cking idiot singer![]()
They're followed by a lot of scumbags, the main singer was a junkie who puts on some hand moves while singing but I like their music. Angie, Changes, Hurt Sometimes, This is, This time, Crazy World. A couple of covers there but all excellent songs. Regularly played on the jukebox in pubs and most people like the music.
Ha... People who post for the sake of posting, even though they haven't a clue about the subject, baffles me..Originally Posted by pete

Weird one, was just reading this tread and listening to FM104 (yeah I know, enjoy the strawberry alarm show though) and what song comes on only Fall on me. I think it is a class new song. They are playing the Point on the 27th of December with only a limited number of tickets left. So they can't be all that bad or small!
I read Christy's autobiog a couple of months back. It made for very interesting reading. Some of the situations he got involved in due to his drug addiction would make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end. He has had a very colourful life and overall the band were very unlucky not to make it. Oh and to the poster who reckoned that is was due to his addiction, not quite, the addiction came after most of the setbacks.
And as for the idea that they are a Dublin band with only Dublin followers!![]()
They are like the Brendan O'Carroll of music!Originally Posted by ThatGuy
