Jaysus Gerrit - you actually make it sound like youd need to go abroad if you were travelling down "south"!!!!!

a trip to belfast for me would be just the same as a return trip into dublin city centre!

Thumbs up A Real Irish Group

Aslan are a catchy band with some good shoigh. Yeh Im a fan & proud they're a Capital outfit.
Crazy World, Shine A Light, Fall On Me & Different Man.. I highly recommend!

Lead singer Christy might have past faults but I doubt he's as outspoken as flipin Bono!

I had my standard Dublin Aslan phase but I'll admit they are far from 'pure class'. Made in Dublin an album of qulaity songwriting though. Well thoughout lyrics and a good sound which knows its limits. Chains and Life is not a Pretty Thing my favourites.

Oh and to the poster who reckoned that is was due to his addiction, not quite, the addiction came after most of the setbacks
I enjoyed the autobiog too. Christys a legend. I thought the story of him(skinny and white) chasing a big black guy through the projects of New York for selling him fake gear was gas, after about a minute of chasing this guy he realises what he's doing, running through a black ghetto after a guy twice his size, and decides to stop and run in the opposite direction. At the same time the black guy realises the same thing, turns and legs it after him.
Stick that on a flickery black and white film with the sped up movements and some old timey piano music and you've got yourself a 50s comedy sketch

Whenever I've been in towns outside the smoke, they've always brought a big following with them, rather than locals coming out to see them. A doris in the office here used to follow them around. Most of their gigs are in the Dublin commuter belt anyway, packed with Dubs to begin with.

Don't like them myself, but at least they can play instruments and sing live, so don't really hate them either. Far better bands from around the time that didn't stick it out once they didn't get UK success. I suppose it stands to them that they carried on, but their longevity doesn't make them better than the likes of whipping boy imo.

I think they're alright. They seem to play the point every month and do a country wide tour every few weeks.I don't think a month would go by without Aslan playing within 30 miles of Longford.I just think that they are overplayed at this stage and need to take a break for a few years.
