Galway United’s late season burst towards the top end of the First Division table continued as they recovered from a half-time deficit to take an emphatic victory over Kildare County at Terryland Park on Friday night.

However, their run of form is unlikely to be good enough to seal a place in the promotion/relegation play-off.

The Tribesmen have now won five and drawn two of their last seven games to make giant inroads on the pacesetters.

But they are still two points off second-placed Cobh Ramblers with just one game remaining, and their slim hopes of reaching the top two will be dashed if either Cobh or third-placed Dublin City win on Saturday evening.

Philip O’Reilly put the home side ahead early on but Chris Jones fired twice to put Limerick in front at the break.

However, four goals in the space of 17 minutes, from O’Reilly, Ronan Frawley (2) and David O’Dowd, saw the home side to the win.
