I dont want an English manager and I am not a racist. Its like Utd not wanting an ex Liverpool manager or the Germans not wanting a Dutch manager. They are our nearest rivals and i would hate to be managed by an English manager again. That is my view on it and I love going to the England and I like its culture of Beatles, Monty Python, Led Zeppelin the BBC (mostly). However I do think that we should be managed by an Irish man or else a top top European coach with and Irish assistant.

Ok I will add the Office, Royal Family and a host of Stand Up Comedians to that list. I think the English have been top class at comedy and pop music over the Years.

well its certainly NOT Venables at the moment - theres no way Paddy Power are going even money on a man who already has the job. Looks like a smokescreen to me , maybe he was contaced and it leaked out. The first weight of money came for him in Cork and not Dublin if that means anything.
I would suggest its the bookies trying to heighten interest in a stale market.
Yeah all hype....Hiddink seems to be best of the rest of th Euro coaches, NeilMcD, for me! Though if I had to pick an Irishman it would have to be Keano....!

Are you suggesting I should get the job or have I read that incorrectly. I have to say the FAI have not contacted me and I have not applied for the job. However I am open to offers.

have to agree ... Hiddink is the man, until he says hes not interested that is. Whether some tanned dutch guy who says "you got to make a good game today and ze play fer your yersey" is going to inspire the lads, I have my doubts. I stuck 2 euro on him yesterday at 25/1.. although this betting on the manager lark is a cod at this stage. All these rumours about dead certs, I don't believe. I got stung badly in 2002 when I read on the predecessor to this forum that Bertie had a jet ready to whisk Roy back to Japan. .. and paddy Powers were offering decent odds on roy playing again.Originally Posted by Tired&Emotional

I think it will be a while before we will be rivals with the english again footballwise![]()

....i thought the thing about venebles was that he was good working with top class players......hello....that rules us out.....the bookies lark was the same the last time the job was vacant...who knows what way it will go with the fai....your talking bout an organisation that rejected the most succesfull british manager of all time in favour of some newcastle reject....and didnt that turn out to be a not so bad decision...........lets just wait til thay make a bleedin decision and get behind whoever they pick as manager.....
Isn't it great to be condemned even when you make the correct decision.Originally Posted by klein4
The last 3 managers we've had haven't been bad choices. Let's hope whether he's Irish, English, Dutch, German or Burmese, he'll do one hell of a job (providing he's not Dalglish, Venables, Keane or O'Leary).
I don't see that the weight of the wagers of Footie's top punters is having any effect with PP's odds. Except I see MON is creeping quietly back into 9/1 and Venables is slithering out to 9/4.
Anyone else think Leo Beenhakker (dutchman in charge of Trinidad & Tobago) could be a contender ? If the Trinidadians dont make it through their playoff with Bharain (1-1 after 1st leg at Trinidad) I could see us being able to tempt him over here. Could be worth a go as a cheaper alternative to Hiddink ? Any US based people able to comment on how the Trinidadians have played with him running the show ?
I'd prefer him to "El Tel"
Hiddink is getting 850,000 euros approx from the Australian FA for the 2 qualifying matches (its been bankrolled by the 2nd richest person in Australia) so can't see him coming on board no matter what happens with Australia. And he will not give up his day job at PSV. I have seen TandT play a few times on ESPN world and Beenhacker has improved them dramatically. No club commitments but he looks ready to keel over from the chain smoking! But he should definetely be considered.
I had been wondering where Beenhacker was. Can someone remind me what era he was in charge of the Dutch, and how did they do under him? Anyone got a full full "CV" ?
He coached Real Madrid in the 1980s or early 90s and also I think he was at Ajax in the 80s, he might have coached the Dutch national side too.
if you're good at Dutch:-
Trainer
Daarna werd hij trainer van onder andere Real Zaragoza, Go Ahead Eagles, het Nederlands Elftal, Real Madrid, Grasshopper-Club, Ajax en Feyenoord. Met Feyenoord werd hij landskampioen in 1999.

Beslommeringen

I'm an Ajax fan and I wouldn't like to see Beenhakker as Ireland manager.
When Arjen Robben was 17 years old he was still at FC Groningen and he came knocking on Ajax's door. Don Leo was the "Technical Manager" at the time, i.e. responsible for purchases and negotiations. During the negotiations Robben wanted more money and instead of negotiationg Beenhakker told Robben to get stuffed. So young Arjen and his Dad went off down to Eindhoven and signed for PSV - who later flogged him to Chelsea for loadsamoney. Beenhakker is also the man who fired Co Adriaanse from the Ajax job after only just over a year. Co turned out to be one hell of a manager.
However, it would be interesting to see the look on David Connolly's face if Beenhakker was made Ireland manager. Remember, Beenhakker got into a personal feud with young David and it was he who sent him packing to Excelsior.
Personally I'd like to see Morten Olsen approached for the Ireland job, as I said before. Or possibly Michael Laudrup.
Yayyy...for the fourth or fifth time, betting has been suspended on a managerial candidate.
Must make a mental note to ignore anything in relation to the Irish manager before about January. Everything else, it seems, is either tabloid speculation or deliberately misleading FAI leaks.
Paddy Power's prices are still up. Seems to have gone cold on Venables, despite reports that he was meeting FAI next week.Originally Posted by pineapple stu

Honest! I am not a secret Tim nor a closet Sham - I really am a Seagull.
Was he not with Holland at Italia'90? Rows splits and spits, lost to West Germany, I suppose that means 100% failure rate. Might also mean he has been wiped out of Dutch national team news archives.Originally Posted by Stuttgart88
The man has a massive CV. He was never a player of note and started managing in his 20s. (in the 1960s)
Here:
http://www.beijen.net/frank/cvs/beenhakker-l.htm
He's been in management for nearly 40 years at 16 different clubs/countries and has won three league titles with Real Madrid plus two with Ajax and one with Feyenoord.
I don't think he's the kind of guy who could give two proverbials about the development of youth players and the future of Irish football at a domestic level. If he gets bored he'll quit and find another job.
