Fair play to Cork for putting up clips of their games. It's a pity more clubs don't follow their lead (do Bohs do it as well?). Fantastic to have them on the web.

Foot.ie's entire existence is predicated on the average idiot's inability to ignore other idiots
Careful now, you can't forget to praise the little clubs too.Originally Posted by bigmac

I have them on tape and they still do not warrant dismissal. If they were on yellow yes but a straight red is harsh. You must have been the only one in the ground to think that they were fair dismissals. A bit of common sense from the ref was warranted. Even your own player said it was a yellow after Mark's clumsy challenge.Originally Posted by Peadar

I think we all know eL refs not good enough but i think the big problem is the selection of refs for certain matches - big games should have experienced refs.
Waterford V City.
I can't remember Paul Whelan doing many Premier division games this season & i'm guessing hes mainly a 1st division ref. he was clearly out of his depth in very heated local derby. I thought sending was correct in the heat of the moment but looked at on tv & clearly wrong. Bennets yellow card was also ludicrous. Penalty was bad decision in 1st minute of game.
Rovers V City
Hugo Whoriskey doesn't do many City matches & I can see why. Sendings off were harsh in fair game with few bad tackles. 2nd sending off was strange when had City player pleading for Rovers player. The fact he chickened out of 3rd red card knowing he'd have to abandon game & explain his actions to the FAI was bizarre.
I didn't say that they were "fair" in the sense that you imply, nor did I say that I wanted them to be sent off. I simply said that they were justified.Originally Posted by NY Hoop

You would have to exclude whoriskey then.Originally Posted by Peadar

Can you not see the difference?
I've made the point more than once.

Of course I can see the difference. But getting questioned by someone who thinks our club is a joke, well, is a jokeOriginally Posted by Peadar

If it was your 2 players sent off for unjust and/or harsh decisions there would be absolute uproar.

They need to have 5 sent off for the match to be abandoned (ie have fewer than 7 players on the pitch)
As for the two red cards in the above game.
First one - how late does he actually want to be? Late Tackle from behind - nowhere near the ball - definite straight red card.
Second one - why has he got the arm up there in that position in the first place - once again ball has long gone - violent conduct - if you swing your arms/elbows up there - and make contact with an opposition player's head - with the ball nowhere near the two - then you deserve to be sent off.
Both fully justifiable

If they were both Bohs players and the same happened - then I would still say the same.
I never defended Kelly when he threw the ball at Sandvliet (iirc), or Byrne when he nearly disembowelled that Shels player at Tolka.
Those two were justifiable sendings off - same as those two in the video

I'm not going to bother talking about most of the decisions as the ref was completely clueless (big surprise - they usually are), but I'd like to see what the ref's report says about Bennett's booking. TV3 said it was for the row with Doherty, but I know we all thought at the time it was for fighting with his own player just after that. That seemed to be when the linesman reacted. Didn't he push his own man (could have been O'Donovan, not sure)? I'm not saying the ref was right to book him, but I think this is the offence Cork should be appealing about.Originally Posted by pete
