    Exclamation Kevin Keegan's chances

Just looked at Paddy Power and was rather horrified to see Keegan
    at 3rd favourite at 8-1

got to agree. very good manager imo and would rather see a keegan or venables given the job than the likes of staunton .. why do we as a country settle for the likes of staunton ( no offence stan ) who has no managerial experience .. hopefully this is all a smokescreen for a great appointment ..

The stan thing is obviously a joke, how could they replace a reasonably experienced mature manager with a young guy with no experience what so ever.. The names I underlined are the only realistic managers that imo have what it takes but i doubt any of them would consider it.

    S Staunton 4 - 1 J Kinnear(maybe) 33 - 1 D Givens 80 - 1

    J Aldridge 7 - 1 Philippe Troussier(but gone) 33 - 1 Brian Kidd 80 - 1

    K Keegan 8 - 1 A Ferguson 40 - 1 G Taylor 100 - 1

    P Reid 9 - 1 G Graham 40 - 1 J Charlton 100 - 1

    T Venables 10 - 1 P Le Guen 50 - 1 SG Eriksson 100 - 1

    G Burley 12 - 1 Chris Hughton 50 - 1 J Giles 100 - 1

    K Moran 12 - 1 David Moyes 50 - 1 L Macari 100 - 1

    L Brady 12 - 1 H Redknapp 50 - 1 R Koeman 100 - 1

    D O'Leary 16 - 1 Bryan Robson 50 - 1 C Maldini 125 - 1

    Bobby Robson 16 - 1 Avraham Grant 50 - 1 M McCarthy 125 - 1

    M O'Neill 18 - 1 Ian Dowie 50 - 1 W Luxemburgo 125 - 1

    C Ranieri 20 - 1 R Houghton 50 - 1 J Cryuff 125 - 1

    Roy Keane 20 - 1 Niall Quinn 66 - 1 B Vogts 125 - 1

    K Dalglish 20 - 1 G Strachan 66 - 1 D Deschamps 125 - 1

    F Stapleton 20 - 1 R Whelan 66 - 1 J Mourinho 200 - 1

    Otto Rehhagel 25 - 1 S Allardyce 66 - 1 E Dunphy 250 - 1

    G Hiddink 28 - 1

Maybe bringing Staunton in for an interview could be a masterstroke on the FAI's part. It'll cause so much panic amongst fans that some will be prepared to accept otherwise dodgy candidates instead.

No, because for the FAI to do such a thing their would have to be at least one of them that actually had a brain cell.

Keegans management record is poor, his best attribute is that he recognises
that as a manager he hasn't got a clue and will walk away when he has screwed things up.

Kevin Keegan backed Kevin Keegan because nobody else in their right mind would. Probably a tactic by P.Powers to make even more money. Staunton is orchestrating a "media" campaign through Walsall to try get the job and it isn't going to work. Merson saying the "fans" want him?No chance. And Merson confirmed that Stan had NOT been contacted by anyone at the FAI (or FIA as Merson called it). Venables is the top coach on the bookies list and should be considered.

Staunton!!!!... is there anyone on here in favour of him as manager? This pi**es me off to no end. I never liked him much as a player but this is ridiculous... F**king gazza has more experience as a manager!

Yeah, look at how he screwed up the Toon, Foolham and Citeh. All now floundering at the bottom of the Championship instead of the top/middle Prem.

Sack him now. Ireland are down at the mo and if brought us back to anything like he left those three then we'd be a lot more attractive than we are now.

    Honestly.

Anyway, he's at 200-1 for the manure job soon to be available, ha ha, he'll surely take that.

The above is all opinion and based on personal experience. Unless stated otherwise it is not a dig at anybody, well probably none of you lot.

Bit embarassing being managed by a tactical inept failed England manager though.

Got them to a tourny finals if I remember correctly. For tactically inept see media myth, too honest more like.

Not my choice for the job, but to dismiss his track record on such a whim is churlish.

What was Kerr criticised for? Not being attacking enough? So replace him with Keegan, who the last time he was involved in managing an international team was so afraid of playing attacking football, he played Southgate in midfield! Kerr didn't inspire the players enough? Well any players who are more inspired by an English hero like Keegan than by Irishmen like Kerr or Staunton should just go and play for another country as far as I am concerned. Kerr wasn't tactically astute enough to be able change things when it was going against him? Well Keegan himself is honest enough to admit that when it was going wrong, he didnt' know what to do.

As Man City recent rise proves, there is no reason to believe that completely inexperienced former internationals can't do a lot better than Keegan. But of course I forget, Pearce is English whereas Staunton has committed the cardinal sin of being Irish, so he cannot possibly be any good.
I'd love Stan to get the job, just don't think KK deserves to dismissed so easily - beggars can't be choosers. KK let SP work alongside him in every aspect of the job for three years before stepping aside and letting him take over, he must take some credit for that. Not beyond the relms of possibility he'd do the same for Stan.

I'd much rather see Staunton or even Aldridge being given the job than Keegan. Keegan has had his crack at managing and has been poor so we might as well go for someone unproven.

I fail to see what the problem is with giving Stan the job considering the experienced alternatives who would realistically consider the job have very poor recent records. Rijkaard and Van Basten had little managerial experience (if any) when they took over the Dutch job and both have had some degree if success. Kilnsmann and Voller had no managerial expeirence when they took over the German job.

I would like to make the point that Franz Beckenbauer won the World Cup in his first managerial job. 'Nuff said.
"Jacques Santini...will be greeted in every dugout of the country by "one-nil, one-nil" - Clive Tyldsley, 89th minute of France-England June 13, 2004.
"Ooooohhhh Nooooooo" Bobby Robson 91st minute.

Paul le Guen would be on the money? Is he still out of work?
