doh - just read title thread now.. new band of the year.. hmm.. needs more thought
life is random
All the above mentioned are hardly new bands.I would say the best band I've heard this year is a French band called Daisybox,if you like Pixies you will like these, mind you they sing in French but the music is fantastic and the French actually works with the music.
MOT
I would be inclined to look at Arcade Fire as a favourite for new band of the year. I dropped around 5 bands the moment I saw it was NEW band of the year.

i hate that. kept seeing ads for "two more eyars" the new single from silent alarm. listened to that album many mnay times and never heard that song. checked it out the other day and its a re-issue.Originally Posted by Bully Bull

mitchell brothers supporting in dublin.
oh and one more bloc party thing...where can you get the audio version of the streets remix of "banquet"? the two more years single only has the video version.
you gowl!
The Magic Numbers just edging out Arcade Fire for best new band.
But the best new 'act' of the year is KT Tunstall by a considerable distance IMO.

KT Tunstall is a funny one Tiktok. Live she would make anyone go out and buy her album. Cracking live vibe off her, but then you go home and put the album on and its so quieter its almost a different act!! Shame that the album does not contain the spirit of the live performance? Would you agree or disagree?
Magic Numbers, would you believe I do not have their complete album. I was given a demo once but thats all. Arcade Fire just grow and grow on me and I am eager to see them live!!!

Yeah. I'd agree about KT, seeing her live puts her on a level higher than she would be based on the album to be fair.Originally Posted by Gareth
Magic Numbers are similar, the second half of the album dragged and some songs seemed overly long until I saw them live, that gave me a new appreciation for the songs.
I think the Kaiser Chiefs are overrated btw. Especially Lyrically...
"...I tell theee" just to rhyme with "...lairy", aw come on.

Its crazy to see people be what society wants them to be but not me.
One good single and some promising downloads, I'll wait for the album, but they're nowhere near the best New band of the year.Originally Posted by sylvo

No, Kaiser Chief Lyrics are Sh!te IMO, musically not bad, like the hook on the new single especially and I'm willing to accept that they're good live.Originally Posted by gustavo
We can go back and forth if you like.
But you'll run out of bad Magic Numbers Lyrics long before I even finish with 'I predict a Riot'! e.g.
Watching the people get lairy
Is not very pretty I tell thee
Walking through town is quite scary
And not very sensible either
A friend of a friend he got beaten
He looked the wrong way at a policeman
Would never have happened to Smeaton
And old Leodiensian
La-ah-ah, la la lalala la
Ah-ah-ah, la la lalala la wtf?
I predict a riot, I predict a riot
I predict a riot, I predict a riot
I tried to get in my taxi
A man in a tracksuit attacked me
He said that he saw it before me
Wants to get things a bit gory
Girls run around with no clothes on
To borrow a pound for a condom
If it wasn't for chip fat, well they'd be frozen
They're not very sensible
La-ah-ah, la la lalala la
Ah-ah-ah, la la lalala la Yes indeed
I predict a riot, I predict a riot
I predict a riot, I predict a riot
And if there's anybody left in here
That doesn't want to be out there
Watching the people get lairy
Is not very pretty I tell thee ohmigod, twice
Walking through town is quite scary
And not very sensible
La-ah-ah, la la lalala la
Ah-ah-ah, la la lalala la
I predict a riot, I predict a riot
I predict a riot, I predict a riot
And if there's anybody left in here
That doesn't want to be out there
I predict a riot, I predict a riot
I predict a riot, I predict a riot
comical

An inhabitant of Leeds is locally known as a Loiner, although such terms are rarely used or understood. However, the mock-classical adjectives Leodensian and Leodiensian are sometimes used by some local sports clubs.
Smeaton is an architect who was from Leeds.
So erm....there. I really enjoyed them Live
