    Aston Villa Takeover

Heard on INN this morning that Aston Villa have confirmed they have been approached by Galway brothers Luke and Brian Comer and also Brian Nevin in a bid to take over the club.
Ever get the feelin' you have been cheated?

Why don't those c***s get involved in Irish football? Why don't they for example buy into their local team and help make them a force in the League here and a team that could qualify for Europe? Apart from anything else it would cost a fraction of what it will take to turn Aston Villa into anything approaching a force in the Premiersh1t! The wealthy Irish do my head in. They hey diddle diddle their taxes and then invest in foreign sports clubs. They are Irish only by accident of birth most of them.

yep .. that was my first thought too when i saw that headline. at the same time, if they invested e.g. in Shels and they got through to the Champions League, then it would leave us a fairly lopsided league... with one team winning season after season.

Then again, Derry have proven this season, that it's not always the team with the most money wins the league.

Think any investment in Eircom League would have to be balanced

Yes but it would encourage others to invest in the EL and other clubs would benefit from that.
P.S. ROsenborg's domination in Norway often mentioned in this context ended when Valerenga won the title last weekend.
In fact this season Rosenborg look to be finishing around 10th... not even mapped.

Totally agree with all of that. If their investing in something then it should be the Irish clubs they invest it into. I'm sure Galway United would not say no if offered a bit of cash from these fellas

Don't think anyone is saying they can't. Its just when our league is crying out for any investment, its annoying to see Millions being plowed into the British leagues

Must be a tax avoidance angle to this.

Yeah and we're allowed to critcise them too if they're going to put money into a foreign club. Hope O'Leary blows their millions by following the same path as leeds and they lose every single penny. Hopefully Ellis will hold out for more too.

just wondering if o'leary will be part of their plans at all? although i hope he is as i dont want the guy within an asses roar if the ireland job,it wouldnt be unusual for men splashing the cash to have a manager of their own in mind.

also his chest-thumping-fist-kissing display to doug ellis was strangely tactically naieve recently as that man wont be in power much longer,o'leary specialises in taking care of o'leary.......always has, so this was strange unless he knows he is likeky to be out on his ass soon and will blame the takeover rather than his making a right pigsear of villas season. that would be more like the oleary we know.

Would have been nice to see even a fraction of it ploughed into any Irish club, be it Shels/Cork/Sligo/Limerick or whoever. 10% of what they're spending on Villa, and 10% of the £20m minimum transfer kitty a year would make an insane difference... Hell, 5% would be too!

Assuming Irish Club figures as 5% of the Villa totals.

    Take over:
    Villa: £64,400,000 (€94,805,521)
    Irish: €4,740,176

    Minimum Annual Transfer Budget:
    Villa: £20,000,000 (€29,437,161)
    Irish: €1,471,858

Now, looking at those figures, ploughing even LESS than 5% into an Irish club would make a huge difference, i.e:

1% of the 64.4M Sterling take over would be approx 950,000 EURO.
1% of the 20M Sterling trasfer fund would be nearly 300,000 EURO.

And suffice to say, wages wouldn't be as high either.

ONE PERCENT of the money being ploughed into English clubs would make the world of difference to an irish club. ONE fecking percent!!!
    God

Maybe if Tabby starts making it big he might get involved, or the Conway sisters
