FAI denies Danish contract

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has denied claims that it entered into a contract with Denmark relating to a friendly international at Lansdowne Road in November.

The Denmark federation announced on Thursday that the FAI had pulled out of a contract to hold a game in Dublin.

But Delaney insists there was never any deal reached with the Danes regarding a meeting next month.

Quoted in Friday’s Irish Daily Star, an FAI spokesman said: “No contracts had been signed and when we informed them of our decision they understood our position perfectly.”

Denmark have revealed that the FAI have cancelled a proposed friendly between the countries next month – and the secretary general of the Danish federation made no bones about the fact that they are displeased by a “clear contract breach” by the Irish governing body.

An FAI subcommittee is setting about the task of finding a replacement for Brian Kerr, whose three-year tenure came to an end after failure to qualify for next summer’s World Cup finals.

And the search for a new manager will take up all necessary energies for the time being – so it has been decided to shelve plans for a game at Lansdowne Road next month.

The Danish secretary general, Jim Stjerne Hansen, said: “Its board decided to put the agreement with us aside saying they found the game unnecessary because they do not have a trainer.

“There is a clear contract breach but we won’t get a game out of that.”

The Association have never advertised a November friendly against the Danes, so the only surprising thing about the Danes’ announcement is that a contract was ever agreed between the respective federations.

That's a bit of a cop out. Have they no multitasking skills? How much time (man-hours per day) is spent looking for a manager given that the FAI never even made contact with O'Neill.
This reminds me of a year or two ago when the annual awards dinner was cencalled because noone got round to organising it.

Looking for a new manager didn't stop us playing Greece in 2002.

The FAI are talking about taking their time to find a new manager, with May or June being mentioned if necessary. Are we going to be without a friendly until then? Great preparation for the Euros.

If there's no written contract, the Danes don't really have gruonds for complaint other than the breaking of a gentleman's agreement. Though it reminds me of a story from the Faroes, when some Irish lads ended up in the Manhattan bar in Tórshavn talking to the head of the Faroese FAI, who was plying them with drink. He was talking about the FAI at one stage, and in particular, one really awkward, unhelpful individual within it. No prizes for guessing who that was...

A verbal contract is still legally binding, just much harder to prove. Surley international games should be organised more than a month in advance.

Why do you assume the Dane is telling the truth and the Irish guy is lying.
Its possible the Dane does not know the difference between a contract and an Fai sort of a promise. I support Delaney in this, the last thing that we need is a friendly in November. We need to lie low for a while. It takes a while to count all the losses. What the fxk does any (WC exiled) country need or want to play a friendly in November for? Those Danes need a bit of cop on.

Either way both are equally responsible for the situation not having been sorted months ago.

I forgot about the FAI and money. I was more thinking that that the players have already spent their passion and pride reserves for this type of fixture and for the supporter, its an anti climax.
