Talking City Step up bid to sign George O Callaghan

from da echo and mr spillane...

cork city have stepped up their bid to sign winger, george O callaghan from port vale... blah blah.... o callaghan was in talks with gunther this week and has been offered terms from gunther..

o callaghan spent 6 years with port vale...experianced highs and lows... and "the man from whitechurch is ready for a fresh start" *

quote from o'callaghan "i have always said that I would only play for cork city if i came home and i think i am ready to do that now"
....." i have had a few offers from clubs like Reading, and a club in Asia.. but with such a short season at home i am seriously thinking of coming back to play in the eircom league now"

" I am out of contract, at last and i am a 'free' agent and cork looks like an attractive option now"

    *god i wish i could write like that .. noel..what journalism..what pro's

ok this could be read like.. the new season in ireland is a short one so i'll come home to cork, get noticed and put myself in the shop window hopefully to get a better offer then some Asian club that the echo didnt even research who it was.....i mean what has the length of the season got to do with it.. if he wants to come home to cork to play..

Thats a good point. It sounds like he may be just trying to use city as a stepping stone to bigger and better things. If that is really his attitude I think he is the kind of player we could do without.

When Stephen O'Flynn joined City last year, he said outright and without beating around the bush, that he wanted to do well in Ireland, so he would be noticed by a Brit club and signed up, instead of playing for a non-league team or some 3rd div. reserves (please no "now he's with CCFC reserves!"). If Georgie Boy wants to get noticed then, a) He will have to give 110% in every game and play out of his skin, and b) wemight actually get a fee if he is that good

Anyway, if he's a winger, then we NEED him!
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.

Exactly. If he wants someone across the water to look at him, he'll really need to show some class.

I've no problem with players returning so they can get noticed 7 progress. It shows ambition & means they'll have to perform well to "get noticed".

Its better than the alternative of players coming back to retire in ireland & earn a few quid with city at the same time.

If an eL club does well & offers euro footie maybe these type of players would choose to stay in ireland?

Yeah, I think bringing them back is an important step, maybe when they do come back it will help change the anti-eL mentality that exists.

George is looking for money up-front from City. City only want to start paying him in July. Stumbling block.

If he wants to get noticed the he'll have to play well, that will benefit City. Money will always be a stumbling block with City.

Today's Evening Echo reports that Cork City will complete the signing of George O'Callaghan, on a free transfer from Port Vale, today. The 25-year-old has turned down a new contract offer from Brian Horton at Vale Park and will be on the full-time playing staff at City having agreed to a two-year contract.

well thats good news anyway, another longish (by CCFC standards) contract, a player playing full time pro, and it seems whatever disagreement over his contract that was holding up the deal has been sorted out.

but for someone to turn down a new contract offer from Port Vale to come to city, surely says something ( not sure exactly what it says yet).. - must check up where port vale are and in what division...

Good News though althesame and I'm really looking forward to the start of the new season now
