    Artic Monkeys?

Anyone hear much of their stuff, what you reckon?

Heard that "bet you look good on the dance floor song" and another onw called "bigger boys and stolen sweethearts" both decent songs.

    Anyone have the album?

No album due until next january.

They released a limited edition EP a while back called '5 minutes with the artic monkeys', really hard to get, going for a fortune on ebay.

To be honest it was downloads, p2p and word of mouth that has gotten them a strong enough following to push what's effectively their debut single to Number 1.

I'm not sold on them to be honest, some of the stuff I've heard (live anyway) is quite sloppy. Few good tunes alright though and the single is a bit of a breath of fresh air.

I got a copy of Dancing Shoes free with rock sound magazine, the music with attitude cd. It's not bad, as tiktok says, it's a bit sloopy, but that's part of their charm in my opinion. It's raw, un-tailored music. Excellent stuff. I just hope they can hang onto some of that rawness when a big record label gets a hold of them.

Only know Fake Tales Of San Francisco. I like it but sounds a bit one-hit-wonder-ish though.

whats on mtv2 ,bet you look good on the dance floor !! the single thats number 2 in the uk at the moment . of course its going to be on mtv it s number 2 in the charts .

being an underground band doesnt mean you fit into some label or just play weird music for the sake of it so you dont get labelled mainstream, it means you play small gigs and you tour and tour and tour untill you build up a good following the way band s should

right. "i bet..." is on constant play on the main mtv channel as well.
mtv 2 shows "i bet..." the whoe time and various live stuff. zane lowe has had them on his gonzo show and i've seen a video for "fake sounds..." as well.
i'm not saying theres anything wrong with them being on mtv or being on the whole time (I LIKE THE BAND!!!!) but to call them undeground when they get this much exposure is wrong. while THEY MAY HAVE BEEN UNDERGROUND PREVIOUSLY. THEYRE NOT NOW!

isnt calling them underground labelling them?

playing weird music for the sake of it? c'mon. the majority of underground bands play music they want to play and thus its a bonus when people like it. its not all weird music - thats a stupid statement. you heard of fugazi? they have a low ticket price policy, release their records on their own label, rarely do interviews, have no official merchandise (they cant stop bootleggers), never make music videos etc., their music isnt weird...in fact TV3 have used in on their programme commercials! still they are huge in the underground, i bet zane lowe likes them and they get played on 2fms alternative shows. no hype. no in yer face the whole time activity.

incidentally, and i'm not being smart here, how much touring have the artic monkeys done?

i know what your saying , i dont have mtv 2 in my house so i wouldnt have ever seen them on mtv , are nt we just splitting hairs here over used to be underground but are nt now ,fact is they arent a big band ( yet!!) , the very fact that hardly no one on here has heard of them even though they are one of the best new bands around ,thats why i still call them an underground band allthough im going to stop using that term now !! LOL .

below is the only tour info i have about them i only found out about them a few weeks ago ,but as you can see they are playing all small venues and pubs . and looking at the sold out signs they could easily fill a much bigger venue

In between re-runs of 'Pimp My Ride'? MTV hardly ever shows actual music now, so i don't think you're right. It is popular though.

They've toured lots. They got most of their early airplay on London stations like XFM, and have toured extensively for a while over here now.

They must be aware of the 'hype syndrome' though, as people will turn against them-fickle masses.

the very notion that you can describe something you have seen on a mainstream music television station as underground shows the stitch-up job those boyos at mtv have done on music over the last decade, as a music fan it appalls me and i actually feel a bit sorry for you if in fact you are sat there on a couch watching whatever some suit decides what, you will consider underground music. say it aint so anto.

Yawn. You can't know a band if you haven't heard of them...how do you hear of the majority of (good) bands? On "the scene"?

i believe the point i made, which incedintially, seems to have sailed comfortably over your head with plenty to spare, was in fact that something on hourly rotation on mainstream t.v. can any longer be considered underground. you got it this time? or should i dumb it down even further for you?

''you cant know a band unless you have heard of them''.......is that a fact? quite the revelation there. got any more pearls for us?

and in relation to other sources, are you seriously putting accross the point that in this day and age the only sources open to you are whatever the marketing men of mtv decide to rotate hourly to cabbages on couches? seriously?

as for me, check out www.thecockroachclub.co.uk , being a founder member, promoter and publicist in this (amongst other things) keeps me amused.

now get yourself home, get that remote control in your hand and your ass on that couch and assume your position at the cutting edge.

    toodlepip for now.

it aint so anto !! it aint so ,

you may not have spotted on a later post i say the following "i , i dont have mtv 2 in my house so i wouldnt have ever seen them on mtv ".

i heard mani (of primal scream and stone roses fame) talking about them , went looking for a few songs managed to get a few and listened to them couple of songs ,

i dont watch music tv , i dont read any of the music mags , i generally stumble across music if i like it i listen to it . ( i have a mate that will rate the reveiw of Q so highly he will change his mind about bands .. example when the trills first came on the scence i liked them same with my mate up untill he read Q complaining about there fake american accents that day he started hating them !! where as im off the opinion that they wrote the songs they can sing them any way they want if you dont like it dont listen )

ive also stumbled across 2 other good bands/artists .. my morning jacket , and sufjan stevens ....i know very little about either

completely different from the monkey's but defo worth a listen .

I f**king adore the Arctic Monkeys. They will be the band of 2006 no doubt. How many indie/rock bands of have ever scored a No.1 with their first full scale single release? Not many if any at all I can assure you!

I saw them at Whelans last August and it was the gig of the year. Alot of people are jumping on the ''oh they are an NME band so lets hate them without hearing any songs of their's'' bandwagon but ignore them....... Arctic Monkeys IMO are the most talented band to come out from Britain since The Libertines and will go very far. Fcuk sake their ages are 19/20!

    Believe the hype!
