Damned straight. People forget that we don't have a raft of quality alternatives. If we were like Brazil and had lots to chose from, fair enough.Originally Posted by totalfootball
Got a text saying it was a cracker but haven't seen it yet. Liam Lawrence also scored. Given was supposed to have made a superb save from Elliott and he also hit the bar with a lob.
Lawrences goal was a cracker as well altho shay should've got to it .ball skimmed under his hand- the chip/half volley from elliot was superb, took a age to drop and then slammed the crossbar-Very impressed with stephen today..some great running off the ball, caused boumsong untold problems...good to see some genuine talent emerge to challenge keane, might make him buck up his ideas a bitOriginally Posted by eirebhoy

Didn't see Elliot's goal but Given could not have stopped Lawerence's goal. It was hit with pace and strength and Given or Newcastle wasn't expecting a shot at all cos it came from nothingOriginally Posted by redgav

Just seen the goals and Given probably should have got Lawrences shot. It did hit a Newcastle players arm on the way though which brought it further towards the post.
I didn't see any of the Sunderland goals but clearly if Given is conceding 2 goals to Sunderland he is getting sloppy & needs competition for international place.
i saw the goal on TV3, it was awesome.
As for Robbie, he isnt on the bench for nothing. At least with Elliott he doesnt think he is a prima donna and we dont have to watch any stupid celebrations.
Glad to see that not seeing the goals doesn't stop you from putting forth an opinion. You're right, how could a goalkeeper behind the world-class Newcastle back 4 not be culpable for conceding goals! Given should retire from international football now!!Originally Posted by pete

While it may be too early to hail Elliot as the new messiah his form may provide Robbie with the long overdue kick in the hole he needs. Despite recent displays Robbie is still brimming with talent and I hope this is the spur (excuse the pun) that will bring him back to his best in the green jersey.
hello ? are you talking about the same given to performed heroics for ireland at international level ? he may be letting goals in at newscastle but thats more to do with the fact that newcastle are crap at defendingOriginally Posted by pete
Jesus, sarcasm detectors don't work on Sunday nights?
It was a nice goal and he was unlucky with the lob. Sunderland are very poor though so hes got one year in the Prem then it's back to the Championship. Might be good for him. Light up the Championship for a half season next year and then get a transfer to a decent team.
There is no such thing as a miracle cure, a free lunch or a humble opinion.
Sunderland in the second half were the best team, from what I've saw of him in the last few games, he will not be going back to the Championship.Originally Posted by Fergie's Son

I'm delighted for him because of the honesty he showed in his performances for Ireland. That gets my respect everytime.
