    O’Brien unsure of Drogs future

    October 22, 2005

Drogheda United striker Declan O’Brien admits he is uncertain of where his future lies beyond the end of the current season.

O’Brien was one of the most sought-after forward talents in the eircom League after grabbing 14 Premier Division goals last season.

However, he has failed to match that contribution this time around, tallying only seven this time around.

And while he is not certain to extend his stay on Boyneside, he is quick to pour cold water on speculation that he wants to return to part-time status – a rumour which seemed to precipitate a move to Bohemians.

He said: “At the moment, all I’m thinking about is the semi-final with Bray and the rest of the season. At the end of the season, I’ll sit down and think about everything. I’ll definitely talk to the club but I don’t know what will happen.

“I’ve heard all the talk about me going here and there. People are saying I want to go part-time again but I don’t know where those stories are coming from. I’m not thinking about it at the moment because we’ve got important games coming up.”

O’Brien will be eyeing the FAI Carlsberg Cup scalp of Bray Wanderers in Sunday’s second semi-final at United Park, which will be screened live on RTE 2.

Sharks are as tough as those football fans who take their shirts off during games in England in January, only more intelligent.
